For a while this was one of my favorite movies of all time because identified so much with the character in terms of how he sees the world as a playground.
No one wants to condone crime, or people getting cheated on, but for many things in life the loopholes in society are definitely there, and it allows people to get away with a lot of stuff that without those loopholes they wouldn't be able to get away with.
Not just when it comes to cash specifically, but other things too, like sexual experiences, travelling, staying at expensive places, and having a luxurious lifestyle at a young age without having to go through the rat race just yet.
A book that became very popular here in U.S. regarding these things is the 4 Hour Workweek by Tim Harris, which has a lot of examples of the type of things I also identify with.
It is easy to get criticized for this, but at least for me personally I can say that being young played a part in making those kind of decisions. At the time you just want to have everything, and that's why you end up doing those things without regrets.
They played The Kinks at some point which gives it extra points and having Christopher Walken on the movie is always a plus. The scene with DiCaprio and Jenifer Gardner is very relatable as well.
On top of that who doesn't like to roleplay James Bond? I think at some point many of us do go through those phases. It is what it is.

I watched this almost exactly three years ago (18. Feb. 2018), and it's a great movie, solid as hell. It stars DiCaprio, who is always fantastic, and Christopher Walken impresses me so much. The film does follow the time tested and proven Spielberg formula, and while it isn't the most groundbreaking stuff this late into his career, it does work. Great movie movie that's entertaining for pretty much anyone 4/5.
