I started talking about this in Handheld Wars, but I figured it is notorious enough to have it separated, specially considering we are now a decade after.
I have been recently realizing that if I go back to the years from 2005 to 2013 I can find a lot of stuff that I was never familiar with, and discover lots of titles as if they were brand new.
Thanks to that I have a huge catalog of games that I can discover and that would feel brand new or may even feel like they are coming from a parallel dimension because I didn't know they existed in the first place.
I stopped playing games around 2004 / 2005, which is why I still can't recall if I ever played something like SoulCalibur III back in the day. I do remember playing Gran Turismo 4 in 2005, but that's about it.
I started to slowly coming back in 2011 with massive big titles for me like The King Of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat (9), Ultimate Marvel VS. Capcom 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and Gran Turismo 5. I couldn't just ignore a drop like that.
Well, Gran Turismo 5 was technically from 2010, but for me it still felt like a 2011 title, and in 2011 the update called Super Street Fighter IV was released as well bringing even more people in.
You have the biggest companies from when we were growing up reviving some of the biggest IPs from the past, SNK, Capcom, Namco, and even Polyphony.
Netherrealm is a ramification of what it used to be Midway, and brought Mortal Kombat back to 2D fighting which was also big for the franchise.
Over Xbox you had Tecmo releasing Dead Or Alive 4, but they also released Dynasty Warriors 7, and Warriors Orochi 3. I didn't get to play any of those, but those were big revivals.
Konami also brought back stuff like Contra Hard Corps Uprising, and Rush'n Attack Ex-Patriot after bringing Castlevania back the year prior with Harmony Of Despair.
Sega brought back Sega Rally 3 with the Sega Rally Online Arcade console port, and they released Daytona USA on a full HD 16:9 version also for consoles.
They had Virtua Fighter 5, and Virtua Tennis 4 which were big revivals for Sega too. Virtua Tennis 4 was a fantastic game that I consider ultra underrated.
I do admit that it wasn't until 2013 / 2014 that I really started to get fully back into the scene again thanks to Mark because other than Wii Sports Resort for parties I just wasn't there.
But it is important to point out that at least for me personally that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for that 2011 revival.
