It's been a while since we discussed anything here, and even though I haven't played the Gears trilogy in some time, I've played a lot of the sequels and they reminded me of how much I love the original trilogy. I think people forget just how much of a game changer the original Gears of War was back in the day. It was responsible in increasing the amount of RAM the 360 got because the it wasn't possible to make it without more RAM. It looked amazing when it came out and I still think it looks impressive. Of the gray and gritty games, this game truly embodied that look. The characters and guns are awesome (I mean, the chainsaw Lancer is one of the most iconic guns in video games ever), and I love how many great settings we get like the war torn city, the underground caves, the urban outskirts at night, a haunted house, a huge mansion and finally a train. The first game is my personal favorite as the pacing of that game is just perfection. I love how the co-op mode does interesting things like splitting us up into different paths and making them help each other out from the different paths. I never played that much matchmaking, but I can play that campaign over and over again. The two sequels are also fantastic, but the first campaign is one of my favorites in any game and it's designed to be played cooperatively, making it one of the best co-op games ever as well. 5/5

Never liked Gears of War. For me it was too slow paced for a third person shooter and overly repetitive. I preferred the Gungrave games ob the Ps2 over this.

Disappointed. Did you play it by yourself or with people, or both?

I played the single player. But that's just me.I tend to dislike things every one else loves lol. When it comes to Gears of War i thought lost planet 2 was very similar and I really enjoyed that game. There's just somethings that make or break a game for me, and it could be something as simple as level design or pacing.

I wasn't playing games when these came out, and I never had a Xbox, so I missed on the hype. The series is very popular, so I imagine it is a good series.

They are on PC though and most PCs can run them since they came out in 2006, 2009 and 2011. As I said though, they are best enjoyed cooperatively.

I haven't played a single game in the series but I wouldn't mind doing so one of these days, especially if I'm able to get someone to play with me.

Playing in VR wouldn't work in the slighest.

That wouldn't make any sense. This is strictly a cover-based 3rd person shooter. Playing in VR wouldn't work in the slighest. That could be true because I haven't played the game, and I know some devs don't know yet how to make the transition smoothly, so it can definitely be bad. However not everything has to be first person on VR. That is absolutely false. Third person has proven to be an ideal way to play VR games too. Another misconception is that VR games need to be played with motion controllers which is also very far from the truth. Playing VR with a pad sitting on a couch works perfectly as well. I still haven't seen any game that wouldn't work on VR if done properly, but I agree they can always mess it up. The only issue is that you can't play couch co-op on VR, and that's a huge limitation for the platform. Also players with glasses is another issue. Until they improve the field of view, those people won't enjoy it the way it is meant to be enjoyed. Even if the new headsets accommodate glasses perfectly, the players lose a lot of field of view trying to accommodate the glasses, and that kills the experience for them.
