I just cannot believe that games for the ds and psp have gone through the roof. Seriously Pokémon games for ds are over $100 alone. Games that used to be cheap to buy are now often bringing in over $100 online. Fossil fighters champions for ds a game I paid maybe $5 for years ago is going for $70 complete. Fossil fighters the first one is going for $40 and I paid maybe $4 for it complete. I had persona 2 on psp that I bought for $20 now goes for well over $100 complete. Heartgold and soulsilver are so dang expensive and black and white 1 and 2 go for so much now. Platinum is also expensive. Monster racers for ds I bought for $30 and its going for over $100.
I can't believe these prices on these games. These games used to be cheap to buy now are insanely overpriced especially Pokémon. The Pokémon games sold in the millions why are they so expensive?

I've seen N64 games, with boxes at Cash Converters going for $100 to $300. Maybe if they have NEVER been opened in 25 years...okay. But in that case, they may as well be silver bars if opening them is going to devalue them.
Check Facebook buy/sell groups. They may have something cheap.

Whoa, $100 for pokemon games?? Which ones? I was playing OG Gold on my 2DS last night and I have no desire to play the shitty Heartgold/Soulsilver remasters because of all the stupid changes they made to the mechanics and events, among other things. I think this just goes back to all the complaints I've made about remasters of good games and how much I hate it when publishers force remasters on gamers. I'm so glad that Nintendo hasn't forced the pokemon remasters on us, at least.
In regards to the skyrocketing price tags on these old pokemon games, I have two theories: ONE is that none of the post gen-two games are (to my knowledge) available digitally, so demand for original carts is going to be high, and TWO it's because they are official Nintendo products. First party Nintendo titles always demand a ton of money used, even the shitty ones like Super Paper Mario. I've just come to understand that as an owner of Nintendo products.
I think bringing these old games (like Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire for example) to digital stores would help bring down prices on the used games a LOT, but Nintendo is terrible about re-releasing their older games digitally nowadays.
This reminds me of how great of an investment most games are, though. I bought my copy of Bomberman The Second Attack for N64 back in 2010 for $25 at a local store and now it always sells for over $150 dollars. I bought my copy of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn for Wii for $70 in 2014 and I'm sure it sells for way more than that now. And Melee? I got my copy as a christmas present in 2002 and today it goes for more than it did new.
Moral of the story: if you like making gambles, then game collecting is the hobby for you.

I'm really glad that I already bought most of the DS/3DS games that I was interested in!
One thing that affects me badly right now are PC prices - I intended to get a new PC by this year, but that's definitely not possible, the price for every component is through the roof. It's not a problem as there are no newer AAA games that interest me (and my current machine is roughly between a PS4 Pro and One X, enough to play every game that I'm interested in 1080p 60fps), but if anything breaks I'll have a hard time replacing it - as my machine is getting older, any new components will also need a new motherboard due to compatibility. So let's just hope this pc can get through another year or two without any headaches! I had to replace the CPU cooler earlier this year and almost had a heart attack thinking I could damage the CPU in the process.

Yeah that's insane, and some things rarely go down, they just keep going up.

I'm praying this stuff goes down in price again. I actually sold my entire game collection and made $6500 off of it all. I did keep some things though so I still have stuff left over but overall its a bittersweet ending.

I did keep some things though so I still have stuff left over but overall its a bittersweet ending. WHY?? You're probably going to regret doing that down the road. I did a similar thing back in 2011 when I sold roughly half of my game collection, which is something I still regret doing to this day, because I had a ton of awesome and prized games/systems, like Streets of Rage 3 (one of my favorite games of all time), Darius Gaiden (Saturn version), Astal, Mischief Makers (one of my favorite childhood games), my Sega Saturn, my Dreamcast, my Sega Genesis, my top loading NES, my SNES, many controllers, and other gaming stuff. Granted, I didn't mind getting rid of some of that stuff, especially my NES & SNES stuff which didn't leave much of an impression on me, but I still think I went too far. Overall though, I've learned not to sell my games + other gaming stuff, because whenever I have, I've always regretted it in the end. I hope you don't regret this decision down the road.

I don't think I'll regret it. I'll be buying a car that I can enjoy everyday and have fun with. The games I had were just to high up in number for me to play them all. I had so many games and I usually only play on PC as my main system so the rest of the games I had weren't necessary. Sure, I regret selling some things but I know I can have more fun with the car then I would with the games.
