So a buddy of mine has a ps4 and he decided to try out Dark Souls. He got 3, to be specific, and had me play it. Now I am hopelessly addicted. I don't own a modern console or a sufficient gaming PC so I can't play the game, and I'm going through withdraws. There's just something about the slow-paced no-nonsense combat that appeals to me. Plus the Gothic-Medieval setting gives me sweet Dante's Inferno vibes (Dante's Inferno the book, not the game). So what are your views on the series? Which games do you like most? Is Bloodborne's gameplay really that different? I'm really interested in learning more about this series as a whole. If I can ever manage to get my hands on a modern console, I think picking up one of these games will be priority number 1.
Enlighten me!

Man I love the Dark Souls series. I remember playing Dark Souls 1 around the time it was released on PS3, I had no idea what to expect and I ended up getting hooked. Since then I've only managed to complete DS1, DS2, and around half of Demon's Souls, haven't gotten around to playing Bloodborne or DS3 yet.
If you haven't gotten around to it, you should try some games from the King's Field series, they were made by the same company and they were a precursor to the Dark/Demon Souls series. They are all early 3D games (the first one going as far back as 1994) so you can expect them to be a bit rough around the edges, but I personally think that's what adds to their charm. There is absolutely no handholding going on and there isn't much of an explanation for anything unless you make the effort to look into it, It just drops you in a starting area and leaves all the decisions to you. It makes Dark Souls feel on-rails in comparison. King's field IV on the PS2 is considered one of the best and it's the most polished.

Perfect 10 games. Those along with Bloodborne and Demon Souls are to me the reincarnation of the Castlevania series.

I've played both Bloodborne and Dark Souls 2 and like both so far. Will be checking out more of the series eventually. Bloodborne is both similar and different, it's more fast paced and relies on countering over guarding. There's only like one shield in the game and there isn't much use for it.
And yeah speaking of what strato said, they feel more like Castlevania than Lords of Shadow does oddly enough.

Man! The Soul games are great! But did you know that they're totally not for me? I can't stand the pacing of Dark Souls, for example. I'd still recommend it to anyway who wants something good to play.

I'm a big fan. I like to play as a sorcerer.
