Brings back the director of Wrath of Khan and what you get is a pretty damn good movie.

The last TOS installment and it's pretty solid. I still prefer II, III and IV over it, but it's pretty entertaining for what it is. I also watched this back in May and here's my review from then:
"Star Trek has over time become my comfort franchise. Watching the crew of the Enterprise solve large scale problems that could end the world such as stopping Khan from attaining a doomsday weapon, to smaller scale problems such as attaining humpback whales from the past, are both just as enjoyable to watch. The original series cast are full of memorable and wholesome characters, who all have their moments throughout the franchise. The Klingon have been the main villains throughout the show and several of the films. Therefore, I think it is a very fitting ending to the the original series having Starfleet make peace with them. There is enough drama, twists and action to make this quite the enjoyable experience. We get a bad Kirk clone, which is something that often happened in the show, but not in any of the movies. I am happy they brought back that silly trope; it is totally a Star Trek thing. There are some things that I wish were done differently like not relying so much on CGI, because it looks awful today. The practical effects looked way better. While I do think a lot of the other movies are better than this one, the ending is just beautiful here. The last scene pulls it all together. My rankings of the original films would go: II > IV > III > VI > I > V." 4/5
