Back in 1996 my mom took me to see a double feature function at the theater. The first movie was Space Jam featuring Michael Jordan, and the second movie right after was 101 Dalmatians featuring Glenn Close. Which is interesting because 25 years later those are the exact same movies at the theater today. Except now in the future you see Lebron James, and Emma Stone. At some point I remember seeing Independence Day with my aunts, and I think that's about it. I remember wanting to see The Hunchback Of Notre Dame because of the commercials on TV, but I can't recall if I saw it at the theaters or not. What I do remember however is that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Killer Instinct, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Tekken 2, and Virtua Cop 2 were very popular at the arcades.

I saw the new Tom & Jerry and I was disappointed, something is definitely wrong with Hollywood right now.

How the f--k am I supposed to remember what I saw in 1996? I know I saw the Star Wars Special Editions, also maybe Independence Day, but that's it.

That's nothing, I remember stuff when I was 3 when my mom was telling me we were going to move to England, I remember playing in the snow with my cousins, playing at my uncle's arcade, playing at the local arcade there, playing on a toy train my uncle bought so my cousin and I could ride on it, he put it in the living room, it was big enough to ride it, I also remember not reaching a balloon that went to the house's ceiling, and my uncle reaching it for me, the English soldiers not moving, the knight armors at the English tower, the milkman leaving bottles of milk at the door, so many things, and this is how little I was: I'm the kid on the stroller ^^^. That's the house's arcade ^^^. And that's the local arcade ^^^.

I was thinking Batman Forever, but it seems that was '95.

No offense Start, but this is kind of a dumb thread. At least, for us 90s kids anyways. Even though I was born in the early 90s, the first film I have vivid memories of seeing in the theater was The Phantom Menace in freaking '99.
How the heck am I supposed to remember what I saw in the theaters in '96 when I could barely form memories then?? The closest I can come to that is playing Super Mario 64 in my living room on my brand-spanking-new N64 in the holiday season of 96. Does that count?

Hmm, it's like you're not the only person on this forum, funny. If you don't remember any movies from a specific year, isn't it just to ignore the post and not bitch about making a thread that isn't inclusive to you? I didn't see any movies in theathers in 1996, and have no problem with this excisting. Also, it's Strat, not Start.

1996 must have been a crucially important year to you, stratogustav. I believe I remember you saying that you thought '96 was the best year for gaming too. Although you're wrong ('94 was ) this was an interesting year in movies.
I remember Independence Day was all the rage, and I thought it was quite a bit overrated then. I did get extra credit in it for my German class though, because I figured out how to say it in a conversation with the teacher. (Technically, I was wrong, because I said "Unabhängigstag," as it is actually "Unabhängigkeitstag." It didn't matter, because it impressed her.)
Anyways, Twister came out too. I think it was overrated as well. I always felt like Bill Paxton was wasted in this film. He's so awesome in Terminator, Tombstone, True Lies, and Apollo 13. Perhaps it was Helen Hunt who brought him down?
I absolutely loved The Rock. Sean Connery, Ed Harris, and Nicholas Cage were fantastic in that film. Who knew Michael Bay would ruin much of my childhood favorites in the future? That is a movie I will stop to watch whenever I see it on.
Broken Arrow was a movie I caught on TV, so I don't remember if I saw it in '96 or not, but that was a movie I generally liked until John Travolta beat down Christian Slater with a crowbar, and then Slater got up later to become invincible man and defeat Travolta. I couldn't stand Christian Slater so much back then, that I wanted the bad guy to win.
Kazaam came out that year. I like Shaq. I really do. I never finished it, because it was that bad.
Romeo and Juliet was all the rage for couples that were dating at the time. I wasn't dating, so I was forced to watch that in school. I think it was that movie that made me start to take Leonardo DiCaprio seriously as an actor. (Titanic ruined that for a while, though.)
The Substitute with Tom Berenger is a love of mine. That movie is badass, even though it is corny at times and it fit in with that stupid trend of teachers in the hood that the 90s created.
Kevin Costner's Tin Cup came out that year. I skipped that hard, because I can't stand Costner's acting.
Finally, I remember Mission: Impossible came out that year. I remember thinking that it would suck, because Tom Cruise wasn't considered a badass actor back then. He proved everyone wrong. That movie was fantastic, and started the only series of movies that I personally believe gets better with each sequel.

Awesome memories there.
Did I say '96 was the best year in gaming? I can't recall anymore. I remember making a thread with the list of games, but I don't remember the exact year I said.
'94 was definitely outstanding though, and so it was '98. If you ask me now what would be my favorite year I don't think I can have an answer.
I would say the best time in gaming is during the whole Neo Geo lifespan from 1991 to 2004, but that would be completely bias, and I still feel the NES era is really hard to beat even if it was before my time.
