You know when there's an announcement for a new game and it looks stellar, something absolutely special, then the developers use a single word or mention a game mechanic that immediately puts you off?
To me, it's "roguelite". It grinds my gears. When I hear it, I think "hey, another game with level design so terrible and lazy that it seems to be random... Because it is."
Another one is "open world". In 99% of the cases, it means "The game looks fun, but most of the time I'll be wandering aimlessly looking for the next icon on my map that will give me a short, repetitive activity that I've done countless times."
I don't know how many games looked super fun just to completely put me off with one of those two expressions. A game can still be good despite those things (Spelunky, MGS V), but man it's rare.

"Free to play" drives me nuts. I can't stand the paid for ecosystem. I want to purchase the game in its entirety without being advertised to or badgered to get in game purchases.
By the way Cervantes, you taught me something new. I had never heard of rouge-lite until now.

Fucking hell, you three just described all of the major problems with modern video games. I'll also throw in progression systems or daily/weekly challenges. This is to ensure recurring gameplay usually in the form of laborious grinding. Utterly despise it.

My little brother complains about Switch games that don't have the entire game on the physical edition. Apparently larger capacity carts exist, but companies purposely use smaller capacity carts to save money.

It hasn't happened yet, but not having local versus on a fighting game would really drive me nuts.
It's easier for me to forgive a beat 'em up without co-op than a fighting game without local versus.

Lately, for PC games, my most dreaded words in a game trailer are "Epic Games Store". Those exclusivity deals are bullshit. It's so bad that, even when the game is released on Steam or GOG a year later, I've already lost all my interest in it.

Those guys have money, but to be fair my Epic library is huge and my Steam library is very small. All those games they give away make a difference, sadly they don't offer fighting games, but I usually use PlayStation for those.

Deal breakers? Oh boy, where do I begin?
-Casualized gameplay (SSB Brawl, Sm4sh, SSB Ultimate, SoR 4, Street Fighter 4, LoZ Wind Waker, etc.)
-Removed gameplay mechanics (Brawl, Sm4sh, Ultimate, SoR 4, Skyrim, etc.)
-Reduced gameplay speed (see above examples)
-Downgraded level design (example: corridor shooters & cinematic shooters like Halo 2, Halo 3, Crysis 2, Lucasarts' Battlefront 2, etc.)
-Downgraded art direction (ex. Paper Mario TTYD, SoR4, Wind Waker, Fire Emblem Awakening & Fates, etc.)
-Bad business models (ex. pay-to-win, free-to-play, microtransactions, paid mods, etc.)
-Bad DRM, i.e. games that are impossible to sell or acquire second hand (ex. TES Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, etc.)
-no local multiplayer support, such as splitscreen or LAN (ex: Halo 5, Far Cry 3, etc.)
-VR exclusive (example: Half Life Alyx)
