Cervantes @strtogustav Well, you talk about soulless? CGI from any age has always looked like plastic. But I think it's Mario's eyes that make me think of Sonic. No, not that. It's more about when a company/person tries to mimic the art style of another. Just look at those "Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine" demos on Youtube: as stratogustav said, they are objectively better, as in have higher polygon count, higher resolution textures, proper shadows and reflections etc., and yet they just look strange because they don't "get" Nintendo's art style, so they just look fake, soulless. They're all very impressive, but you can just feel that something is amiss. It's not just the characters, even the scenery itself. The trailer gave me a bit of that feeling, although Illumination certainly made an effort to get very close to Nintendo's style. |

What really baffles me is why the FUCK wouldn't they get Charles Martinet to do the voice of Mario and Luigi??? Makes no sense. The actors they use here don't sound right at all.
Oh well, could be worse, I guess. It definitely looks nicer than some of the other shit this studio has done. It's just american cartooning, so you can't expect much.

That wasa great commercial. Just the right nostalgia hit. The woman at the end, is also voiced by Jeannie Elias, who voiced Princess Toadstool (remember when she was called that outside of Japan?  ) in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. |

My daughter was super excited after school today, because I had her watch the video. We then checked out the website, and then called and then texted the number. Although she was a bit let down that Luigi left a message, she was still happy to hear from him. This is fantastic marketing.

Saw it last week, and really enjoyed it. Nothing too deep, but I don't really expect a Mario Movie to go deep. It wasn't just that commercial though. It _really_ felt like this was heavily inspired by the old Super Mario Super Show (the cartoon bits of course, not the live action parts) |
