Damn near perfection of an adaptation; Tom Bombadil wasn't needed.

Great movies, was finally watching the extended versions for the first time this year. I still need to finish up and watch Return of the King, it's over 4 hours and haven't felt like sitting that long yet.

It's been nearly ten years since I last watched them but I did declare them the greatest movies of all time. Never seen cinematography on this scale up until then and since with breathtaking scenery which is a combination of computer effects and actual natural scenery combined with the beautiful soundtrack made this one set the bar to a new level.
The characters were portrait so perfectly some even better than i imagined when reading the books. Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn was superb. If they ever remake it i can't see anyone doing a better job. But the acting was superb all around. Never seen a fantasy film with that kind of performance.
All in all Lord of the Rings is more than just a movie, it's a landmark of poetic, artistic expression.

I love these films, and I fear that there is nothing I can add that hasn't been said a million times over. The story is so well done, that once I saw it, I had to research the 1st and 2nd ages. I had to know more about Osgiliath. I needed to know about the DĂșnedain. In my life, it has been very rare to feel that itch to learn more about a fictitious world, but these films provided that spark which lit a fire within me.
I own the extended editions and the complete scores for each film. I feel like this is one of the movies that Hollyweird should never attempt to remake again. The films are that well done. Now the Hobbit movies? That's a completely different story...

I almost forgot to leave one of my favorite scenes. From the extended edition:
I love the theme throughout the books/movies that one should never give up hope, even in the darkest hour.

I've been preparing to read the books by watching LotR lore on YT and there it a crap-ton of it! There is a lot that happens in the movie trilogy, but the movie trilogy is the CUT version of the book. Mamma mia!

This is a good time to rewatch these. I never really appreciated them when they first came out.

Damn near perfection of an adaptation; Tom Bombadil wasn't needed. I kind of disliked the Bombadil part in the first book (it was a strange tonal shift) and thought it was a good decision taking it out, since there's no way it would work in a movie. It's such a strange little section.
