If we can replace every single SUV and truck in america with Wuling Mini EVs, we might just have a chance to stop climate change.

I wonder if we could find a way to cover desert areas with forests and vegetation. There are so many desert areas that could use some trees. I heard there is a movement called desert greening the can do that.
Also in terms of the lack of water Israel gets their water from the ocean through desalination, it seems like a good alternative to solve some of these environmental problems.
The ocean in general seems to be the solution to many of our problems since the ocean produces 80% of the oxygen and absorbs a lot of the carbon dioxide we produce.

Interesting TED, I remember there was one similar that the guy inherited a big land in Brazil that was basically nothing and turned it into a forest of many trees, but I couldn't find it. Although I imagine it is alongside the same key points of the one you posted.

centipede stratogustav I'm glad you guys revived this thread because I actually have been wanting to reply to Strat's post for quite some time now. Normally, deserts are supposed to look sparse, parched, and barren. You don't want to introduce trees to naturally occurring deserts because then it would harm the ecosystem's natural order. However, there is a HUGE difference between "desertification" and deserts. Desertification is a man-made calamity, essentially what happens when the soil of semi-arid ecosystems like palm savannas and short grass prairies gets degraded to the point where it can no longer sustain the natural flora and fauna. The most infamous example of this was the American Dust Bowl: And we all know what a catastrophe that was. However, in modern times, the most urgent case of desertification is undoubtedly that which is occurring in the sub-Saharan region. Sub-Saharan Africa used to be composed of savannah, but now, man's agriculture and goat-ranching is rapidly transforming it into a literal wasteland. However, there is an easy and natural solution to this problem. In the case of desertification, the solution usually IS to plant tree species that are native to the area in order to stop soil erosion. RealLifeLore posted a great video about the subject a little over a year ago: So, in the case of desertification, YES, trees are the solution to the problem. But you never want to bring trees to true, naturally occurring deserts, otherwise you'd just be spreading invasives, and you'd ruin the ecosystem in the process. It sounded like Strat was referring to naturally occurring deserts as opposed to desertified land when he mentioned his idea about planting trees in desert places, so I just wanted to offer some clarification on the subject. As a matter of fact, true deserts actually store a lot of carbon in their soil. The root systems of desert plants and bushes are so deep that they are able to draw considerably more CO2 from the atmosphere down into the ground than one would think, or so I've read. So you definitely don't want to turn deserts into forests or vice-versa.

Ultimately the ocean produces the most oxígen. Although I have heard theories that in a way, if we are the ones putting carbon back in to the atmosphere, we are basically bringing the Earth to the way it was before we were here. Somehow nature found a way for us to find the carbon in the soil and bring it back to where it was. Pretty much everything in the Universe is made of carbon, so it was going to happen one way or another. But that's just what I heard. People make all sort of thesis, and sometimes people are just wrong. So you never really know. Something even after the fact.
