My dumb decision was missing on this game's digital release, as it's now delisted everywhere. Being a Platinum Games' fan, I should have bought it when I had the chance, just to give it a try (even if I'm not very interested in Transformers).
Well, at least I got Legend of Korra, other PG's licensed game, and a fine one at that, before it was delisted too.

Me too, I missed it, I only have it through PlayStation Plus, which means it is not really mine, and can only play it when I'm subscribed. Luckily there are physical copies, and likely emulation too.

The story is like a movie length sequel to the G1 episode 'City of Steel'. It pulls no punches as giant arms come out of the ground and insecticons start cyber-forming the city. Optimus, Grimlock, Bumblebee, Sideswipe and Wheeljack arrive on the scene (only five , excluding the DLC skins that repaint them as other characters). As they progress, they discover that Megatron has unearthed an old Autobot secret and using it to build a new Cybertron. The casting and presentation for this game is pure G1 fan service. A lot of the original voice talent returns: From Peter Cullen as Optimus, Michael Bell as Sideswipe and Scrapper, Gregg Berger as Grimlock and Long Haul, to Dan Gilverzan as Bumblebee and Frank Welker as Megatron. The voice acting for all of the Decepticon grunts fit the series as well. The graphics are childhood enhancing cel-shaded, and even Vince DiCola (who did the OST for the '86 movie) makes a contribution! Now, how does it play? You gotta go fast! In car mode, you can ram enemies, pass wind currents and break forcefields. Gun play is available but not practical, and you'll have to rely on melee and combos. Dodging just before a hit starts this slow time, but dodge too soon, and the enemy could get a hit on you. To master the game, you will need to be on your toes and master every move you can. Unfortunately, my brain cannot move that fast and I will be stuck on Magnus difficulty for some time. Bumblebee is the speedster, Wheeljack likes guns (he even gets a riot shield out when aiming), Sideswipe is a medium speedster with a shadow step, and Optimus Prime is a Medium-Heavy. Grimlock is hard to play, and I found myself constantly transforming by accident. Since his mode is a dinosaur, it changes his combat style on the fly. But with a good hammer, Grimlock can down a combiner with a dozen or so hits. Also, if you are fast enough, he can catch a MISSILE with his teeth!
"Me Grimlock should not have updated to Windows 11! What if me press 'launch nuke' button?"
Weapons are drops, RPG-style. In the Ark, you can spend credits to buy power-ups, gradually upgrade character stats and upgrade weapons with other unneeded weapons. The closer in grade and type, the more bang for your buck. From blasters and launchers, to swords, hammers and knuckles, you'll fight all ranks of the Decepticon army, ranging from generic stunticon mooks to massive combiners.

Thanks to you guys, I bought a physical copy this week and just got it. I played for a few minutes and yes, it is a Platinum Games' game through and through: fast, responsive and with good action and pretty visuals, especially for what was obviously a low budget project. My initial impression was a lot like how I feel about Legend of Korra, which is a game that I like, even with its flaws.
