I enjoy the Space Harrier series, my favorites are the ones available for 32X, Dreamcast (Shenmue), GBA (SEGA Arcade Gallery) and PS2 (SEGA AGES/SEGA Classics Collection).

Space Harrier for the Master System was one of the first games I ever owned. at the time I didn't like it much because the style of gameplay wasn't my thing back then and all I wanted to play were action platformers.
But over the years I've gotten to love the series and especially Space Harrier 2 for the Genesis/Megadrive.

I still see it as a creative masterpiece. I imagine Yu Suzuki blown so many minds when he put this out. I'm so glad newer generations are exposed to this through Yakuza. Definitely an important release for the industry just like many of the other titles Yu Suzuki came out with. This one has a historical value in my opinion.

According to SegaNerds.com:
"Yu Suzuki recently spoke with the Shenmue Ambasassdor about a range of Shenmue-related topics, but perhaps the most intriguing piece that came out of the interview didn’t have anything to do with Shenmue at all.
Asked which of his favorite classic games he’d like to remake, Suzuki responded with “Space Harrier in (virtual reality) would make for a very fun game.”
Obviously, this is far from confirmation that Suzuki will work on a Space Harrier VR game, but with Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR headset and Suzuki’s close relationship with the company, it certainly could be plausible in the future.
Another SEGA game, Rez Infinite, was announced for PlayStation VR during last year’s PlayStation Experience event. Perhaps if sales of Rez Infinite are good, might we see more SEGA games in VR?"

I've got no hopes for the future of Shenmue as Yo Suzuki has proved that Shenmue without Sega is a bit of a disaster. But to fly through the Space Harrier Zones in Virtual reality sounds amazing. And Rez in VR?, I'll take that, to.

I've played it both on PS3 and Switch over the last few years, both good versions. It's not a game I've ever tried to get good at though, just something quick to playthrough in 20-30 mins with unlimited continues.

I have the remake on the Playstation 2 Sega Ages Compilation. I've also played the Mega Drive version and the animaiton was, well, jerky so I crashed a lot. My brain just doesn't have blast processing! Visually, the PS2 ground ground seems to be crosshatched, instead of checkered, and some of hte sprites, while detailed are still clearly 2D. But the PS2 version runs smoother and I think that somehwow improves my reaction times. I did so well I've only reached the second last level.
What I also like is you get to ride the fluffy dragon from Neverending Story, every bonus stage and wreak wanton eco-vandalism!
Has anyone noticed, while he's flying at a million miles an hour, his legs are still dangling? Is he just going slow while the planet rotates quickly in the opposite direction?
