I will play a Metroid game one day, even if I have to buy a 3DS or Wii.

For a while I thought Super Metroid was the only game that actually existed in the series, I was so ignorant that I missed on so many awesome 2D Metroid experiences, and went the Castlevania way instead, but Metroid is definitely up there on the same category of awesomeness, and just like with Castlevania, the handhelds hold a big part of that legacy.

Wow, you've never played a Metroid game?? The series has been around for over 30 years. The Prime games alone sold millions of copies each. I'm not even a true fan of the series and even I've played Super, Prime 1, 2 (echoes), & 3 (Corruption). Literally every Nintendo console sans the N64, Wii U and Virtual Boy had a Metroid game. Wow, just wow. Anyways, I remember I used my Action Replay disc for GC as a kid to unlock the Fusion suit for Samus, which was normally unobtainable unless you connected a GBA with Fusion to your system. I thought it looked cool as shit: I can't remember if it had an effect on the gameplay or if it was just an aesthetic change, but it sure looked cool and made me want to play Metroid Fusion. Unfortunately, I never did, though. I like the Metroid series, but I'm not crazy about it and I've learned to never go out of my way to play the games because I've just never liked the gameplay enough. It always felt so clunky compared to its contemporaries. But on the bright side, the art direction of these games has always been first-rate for a Nintendo series, which is saying something. I LOVE looking at all that nice box art that Armored Core linked. Thanks for that, Armored Core. Nintendo should let their artists make a Metroid paper-back manga like they did with OoT. I would happily buy that. Side note: I really miss cheating devices like Action Replay and Game Shark. They were such powerful tools that you could literally soft mod any given console game to your liking. I remember using mods from off the internet on my Super Mario 64 cart with the help of Game Shark as a kid and turning it into an absolute circus filled with moon jumping and low gravity. I did same thing with Sunshine via Action Replay a couple years later. It was some of the most fun I've ever had with a game. Too bad evil console makers like Microsoft and modern day Nintendo don't allow cheating devices anymore. The above image of Fusion-suit Samus in Prime is just a happy memory for me now...

I've never played any Nintendo post-64. Never played Ninja Gaiden, F Zero X, never played the PS3/4/5, XB1/SX.
Only played 1 MEgaman game, only one Killzone, only 1 Destiny, the first two Crash Bandicoot games...

The PC platforms usually offer so much variety that is easy to skip a lot of the mainline console offerings, so it is not rare for that to happen.
