I thought it would be a fun idea to pit two of the most infamous business executives in gaming history against each other: BERNIE STOLAR VS DON MATTRICK VS
One was accused of running Sega's console sector into the ground, and the other was accused of trying to murder Microsoft's public image. But the real question is: who was worse at their job actually? Discuss!

Mother fucker stole the SwordQuest prizes. Ha! Did he really? This guy took over Atari just when they where getting into economical troubles. They cancelled the two remaining SwordQuest games, and the grand prize, the diamond/platinum/gold sword has been seen in his living room, meaning he probably have the other two prizes too. Watch the AVGN episode of SwordQuest. A stellar episode.

Bernie Stolar was infamous for not allowing much RPG action on the system, but at least he let it have a lot of cool arcade ports.

Well, at least Stolar made up for some of his previous mistakes by managing well the Dreamcast development and launch, plus most of his mistakes on the Saturn were due to almost no one predicting how huge jRPGs would become in that generation.
Mattrick's instance on always online, abusive DRM, no reselling/borrowing of physical media, forced Kinect integration, the stupid focus on the XOne as a US tv broadcasting machine (excluding everyone outside the US), dismissal of all the games created for previous generations and generally douche attitude are unforgivable.
Stolar was a bad manager during the Saturn days, but he made honest mistakes. Mattrick, though, just wanted to capitalize on the Xbox fanbase as much as he could, to hell with any business ethics or anything of quality to offer. Who the hell would buy an Xbox to watch tv?

Another problem with stoler was that he wanted to take the direction of the saturn to the opposite of the the console was mainly designed for. He saw 2D games as something of the past and wanted non of them to make it to the west when the console was designed heavily for the mid 90's 2D arcade ports which meant the western countries were going to miss out on tons of releases.
But that Xbone launch should of learnt from history because the Ps3 did the exact same mistake and suffered for it just the previous generation. Remember the Ps3 launch?. "The Ps3 can mix music, play blue rays, play mp3's, connect to your phone, connect to forums, is capable of shopping online, connect to your office hardware, order food online, edit videos, karaoke, book flights, order a taxi, wash your clothes, send messages,......... oh and it also plays games".

That was definitely a down side because the Saturn and the PS1 were systems optimized for the best 2D ever till that point, but they embraced the 3D so much that they missed on those opportunities. At least the PS1 didn't have a lot of restrictions, and the Sony name behind it gave it that extra push to become widely accepted, but Sega was coming from very unclear marketing ideas through the Sega CD and the 32X that it was harder to compete.
