I was thinking about making a new 7800 controller, because the original is such a pain to even use. The wonky second button is idiotic in its engineering. I need more boards and acid either way. Running low on solder and ceramic caps as well. Anyway, when I have time, initiative, and the schematics to save having to retranslate the hardware itself, maybe. I don't know if you are around here anymore, but Mister Xiado, did you ever make one of these?

Has anyone bought one of these Sega Genesis to the 7800 controller converters? This looks like an awesome idea, but they haven't made them in a while. I was thinking about importing an Atari 7800 controller from Europe, but the Atari Age people who have hate the d-pad with a passion. Unfortunately, their other options are the ~$150 controllers, so this intrigues me.

I think Balder may have a 7800, but I'm not sure. He claims to be the Atari guy around here. The 7800 and 5200 are nice to collect for because of the small libraries, just like it is for the Vectrex, Sega 32X, and Sega CD.

I almost bought a Jaguar, but the guy selling declined my offer and asked for triple the amount I was offering. The 7800 comes very rarely up on the market. The 5200 has so many technical disadvantages that I don't have the time or money to invest in it. The thing is that I'm perfectly fine in owning the 2600 and its huge library of games. It gives me that classic Atari fix. I own over 300 games for it, and I rather track down games I don't own for it, than to get duplicates for the 5200 or 7800. Edit: oops, meant to say 300, not 400.

I just received this controller from eBay, and I absolutely love it. The 7800 is actually playable. Pole Position II is actually fun. Joust doesn't kill my hands. Robotron 2084 is awesome. My son can actually get further than level 3 in Food Fight. Atari really messed up by not making their controller like this. I may actually buy some 7800 Atari Age games in the future because of this controller!
The controller is made by RetroGameBoyz, and they are available on eBay or Pintrest. I paid $34.95 for it (plus tax and shipping). The buttons and the d-pad feel great. The cord is 10 feet long, and it works perfectly for 2600 games as well. The "select" and "start" buttons aren't actually what we would think they are, because this is a controller built from scratch. It isn't a Nintendo re-skin. Those middle buttons work with menus for games that have that available. You still have to pause the game by hitting the button on the system. I don't fault the makers of this controller, since I suppose the input was never there in the first place. Overall, I'm so excited to have this controller. I'm a bit shocked that it has taken developers so long to create one. Then again, the 7800 isn't really discussed much anymore, except for Atari Age and...here! Oh well. If anyone is interested, here is the eBay link.

I love the design.

Balder have you gotten any 5200, 7800, or Jaguar yet? Man, that controller is super sweet.

Balder have you gotten any 5200, 7800, or Jaguar yet? My plan was always to get them at some point, and I even made an offer on a Jaguar some years ago, but it was declined. Nowadays I've come to the conclusion that I'm not spending enough time with the consoles own to justify buying consoles which are essentially just a variation of other consoles I own. The 2600 is a better 5200 and 7800 console (weaker yes, but a thousand times more playable), and the Jaguar has no games I care for that I couldn't otherwise get on the Saturn or the PlayStation.

Yeah, but 7800 can play both 2600 and 7800 games.

Balder I was really hoping you have them since you are our Atari guy, even if you only have Everdrives for them, they would still count. Well, I heard the new Atari will be backwards compatible, but it is still nice to have the originals. I don't count those Wal*Mart knockoffs though.

Yeah, but 7800 can play both 2600 and 7800 games. I know, but if we're counting simply the library of 7800 games, they're basically just remakes of classics from the 2600. I'm just saying that it's really just an extension as most people play the 2600 library anyways. So if I were to buy one, I'd get a chance to play 7800 games as well, which is not a huge upgrade, and I'd rather just buy more games for the systems I already own with that money.

The new Atari will be able to play older games but not the carts themselves unfortunately. This thing is to be released very soon. I'm not holding my breath for its release or anything, but this is going to be an interesting console release.
