This movie might look crude now, but it was something so influential that allowed Yoram Gross to upsize his company, as lot of home grown productions in Australia, even to this day, are very Mom'n'Pop, not like projects with Hollywood backing.
It spawned a series of sequels, like Land Before Time, and the eventually DO find Kangaroo's lost joey...in a "great big zoo" (which I think is a reference to the Six White Boomers song).
This is very much a Disney style movie. The plot is shallow, but it was based on something written by a 19th century naturalist who wanted to build an appreciation for the environment in children. So, all lot of songs about the animals themselves.
The film got anticlimatic towards the end. I thought the dingo chase would have been a great scene just before they reached the homestead. Willy Wagtail didn't seem all that necessary, or at least he could have been implemented better. It went bird singing, depressed dad, then bird singing again. What a mood whiplash!
I would love to hear a rock cover of the Bunyip Song one day.

It's one of the worst movies discussed on here. Absolutely wretched.
