Since I was ranting about this idea recently, I want to ask: how come Sega never made proper remixes of Sonic Adventure 1 & 2?
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 are usually regarded as some of the most polarizing and disappointing Sonic games ever made by fans due to the good and bad aspects being so widely juxtaposed. For example, everybody loves the Sonic and Shadow levels, but seemingly no one loves the Big the Cat levels or the Robonik and Tails levels in 2.
So, how come Sega never made a proper remix of SA 1 & 2 that included both games crammed together as one package except with all the Big the Cat levels, robot (Gamma? forget his name) levels, Tails levels, Robotnik levels and City Hub sections chopped out?
Honestly, I think if Sega did that, it would instantly become one of the best Sonic games ever made, even rivaling the legendary original three on Mega Drive/Genesis.
The Sonic Adventure games had so much potential and already had so much good stuff in them that it would only make sense that Sega would want to combine & remix the two games into one, but they never did! WTF? Missed opportunity.
Honestly, I think it's never too late for this. If they remixed them into one game and released it digitally in 2022 I would happily buy it.
If Sega isn't willing to make it, then a talented modder should!

This sounds like a project fans would do.

A big part of the charm to the Sonic Adventure games were the different kinds of levels and missions even if they could have been executed better. With only the action stages you'd have a boring game of mostly pressing forward on the analog stick imo.

It's hard to completely separate the good and bad stuff from the Adventure games. For example, I like the hubs from SA1. They could all be much better designed, but I wouldn't want a version of the game without them: they give an important "quiet time" for leisured exploration between the action levels, something that I greatly missed in SA2. I also like the idea behind Tails' levels: revisit the previous levels but with a character that can fly. The problem is that the levels weren't really designed for his abilities (only Speed Highway had changes to account for his flying), so instead of nixing those levels I would prefer that they had alternate paths that only Tails could reach, like in Sonic 3&K. We can all agree that Big can go screw himself, though.
SA2 has a very different style of level design, physics and controls, so it would have to be adjusted if SA1&2 were put together as a single game (I vastly prefer SA1 levels and controls, by the way). The rules for Knuckles'/Rouge's levels between the two games would also have to be consistent. The Chao garden would also have to be a single one that took things from both games.
My point is that with all the needed changes, it would be better to just remake the entire thing from the ground up.
