I thought, so many years ago, we finally had you on the path to movie enlightenment. That you had embrace big guns, big explosions, and big tits as necessary components of a good movie. And after so long away, I come back to find you’ve had the Cannon ninja trilogy on your shelf, and not only have you not watched them multiple times, but you haven’t watched them at all! to be frank, it makes me SICK! It makes me SICK to my STOMACH that you haven’t taken the time to watch these ninja movies. It makes me feel like a failure. It’s like I failed you. I need to get you back in the path. And we can start by having you watch Enter the Ninja immediately or sooner.

cobretti is right, Balder . You should be very ashamed of your words and deeds. It's an introductory movie. It introduced Cannon to action movies and introduced ninjas to the world. It's very didactic about that: it explains what ninjas are, their philosophy and how dead everyone who encounters one is. We have Franco Nero playing the main character, a ninja with an absolute sick moustache who, as any good ninja, uses his deceiving skills by looking like a 70s porn actor instead of a deadly martial artist. Although we get a traditional japanese setting for the flashbacks of his training days, the actual setting of the movie is a modern tropical paradise in the Phillipines, full of coconut trees, beaches, cheap whores and a blonde beauty, Susan George. Franco Nero and Alex Courtney are war buddies, so the movie is also about loyalty and friendship; as for the villain, he is some fart who wants to destroy the place for oil, so you immediately hate him and feel sorry for the whores who will have to go to some place else. Sho Kosugi is introduced here, but as a mercenary villain; it's only in the unrelated sequel that he plays the main hero. The final fight scene, in an arena, has a high body count and Franco Nero wears white just to show how much of a shit he gives to stealth. A real ninja wants everyone to see his smooth moves and toned physique. So, for the very first Holywood ninja movie, we already have all these elements that would become standard: 1. Ninja in a modern setting; 2. An american ninja; 3. A highly visible ninja; 4. The ninja takes the hottie; 5. The ninja has a war/army background. I prefer Revenge of the Ninja and American Ninja, but Enter the Ninja is a damn fine introduction to Cannon, to Sho Kosugi and to ninja movies in general.

Next next week perhaps. My calendar is full at the moment. This is going to be just like with Commando, isn’t it?

If this is anything like the Commando fiasco from the days of yore, it’ll take Balder 14 years to watch Enter the Ninja. This is part one of a trilogy of ninja movies. I’m looking forward to 42 years of busting Balder’s balls about watching Cannon ninja movies. And I’ll probably be dead in 10 years. I have a lifetime of entertainment to look forward to!
