This week, more cats!
Bloody cats, they control the internet. They kill more wildlife than dogs and machinery. They'll munch on your corpse without a hint of respect for your death.
But everyone lieks cats, especially the Japanese. So, this movie is called...

I give this one 3 1/2 stars. The movie is light hearted fun, and it still beats the crap Disney is putting out these days. In this movie, a girl by the name of Haru is a teenager who seems to have everything going wrong for her, until one day, she saves a cat from being hit by a car. It turns out he's the prince of the Cat Kingdom, and his father wishes to repay her the debt with gifts only a cat would love. Obviously, Haru doesn't like the gifts, so the father decides to repay her by giving her the chance to become royalty through marriage to his son. She doesn't want to do that either, but the Cat Kingdom will have none of that. So, she has to go to the Cat Bureau to get help.
This movie is a Studio Ghibli movie, but it is directed by Hiroyuki Morita. So, it isn't one of the "classics" per say. The animation is good, but it isn't on par with their masterpieces. I really enjoyed the voice acting, because they picked really good English dubs. Cary Elwes of The Princess Bride fame voices the dapper Baron Humbert von Gikkingen, and he fits the role perfectly. Peter Boyle voices the "fat friend" (AKA Muta) like a champ. Tim Curry is the groovy king of the cats, and Ann Hathaway plays Haru quite well.
Obviously, this isn't a movie that breaks new ground, nor does it have deep meaning behind it. However, it provides a bit of entertainment in a light hearted manner, while at the same time teaching kids to believe in themselves without being overbearing and obnoxious.

I know that a studio has to put a lot of hard word in a film like this, but it still feels, somehow, like it was made just for fun on the animators' free time. I say this as a compliment: not every Ghibli movie has to strive to be the most ambitious animation ever with a complex story filled with deep meaning. Sometimes, they should just be about a girl talking to a bunch of cats. My criticism is that the movie lacks all the scenes seen in the trailer posted by cobretti , it would be a certified 5/5 in that case. But that might not be the real trailer, so I found another one:

It’s been some years since I saw it, and while it isn’t on par with the greatest Studio Ghibli films, I find it a lot of fun. Maybe because I love cats. 4/5

My idea for a movie is Cujo but with a tabby. I have a tabby. Today, while giving her medicine, she made a huge scratch in my chest. She could totally whack Cujo.
