I would imagine a game like that ported can only be online only for how demanding it is. However they already ported large games like The Witcher 3. Which only means the market is so big that they can.

There seems to be quite a bit of backlash on YouTube about this port to the PS 4 and the Switch. Apparently, nothing is being upgraded, and they will charge the full price for the game. Metroid Prime Remastered was revamped completely, and it came out for $39.99. I wonder if anything will change in the future.
