I’m only giving this a two. No martial arts. No explosions. No gore. No female nudity. The only reason I’m giving it a point is because Danny Elfman did the score, and Oingo Boingo provided the song for Weird Science, which is a killer jam with a greasy bass line.

Every time I go back to watch this film, I find it unbelievably overrated. Like, I want to love it, but it is mid as hell.

Every time I go back to watch this film, I find it unbelievably overrated. Like, I want to love it, but it is mid as hell. I feel like I was being baited by this post. Nevertheless, I will reprimand this filthy swine: I've said this before: the reason why you and your pal Doltn as well as some other forum members namely Dan E Kool cannot understand the genius of artwork like The Nightmare Before Christmas is because you're artistically impaired. Most people don't have an eye for art. It's really a special gift; I have it, Cervantes has it, Armored Core Raven has it, centipede has it, and several other people I have met also have it. But you two do not have it. It's because you're artistically impaired. But don't worry, because most people are artistically impaired. You're "normal". You form the mainstream flock of sheep. You guys are what I refer to as "lesser beings", "inferior lifeforms", or "groundlings"; i.e. those who lack a sixth sense, whatever it may be. In this case: an eye for art. I don't even like the expressionism genre but even I acknowledge that The Nightmare Before Christmas was a fucking MILESTONE for the animation medium and the artworld as a whole. So many films wouldn't have existed without it. I don't even know why you guys bother watching artistic masterpieces like A Nightmare before Christmas and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within because they always fly way over your little heads. This is one of the many reasons I lost all interest in art: I got tired and fed up with trying to explain it to artistically impaired commoners like you guys. It was too emotionally draining to try and discuss fine art with artistically impaired sheep who were way below my skill level, so I just decided to move away from it entirely. Ironically, I have gotten more enjoyment out of lambasting the artistically impaired than I ever did browsing art or producing it myself. That's another one of the reasons why I had to ditch interest in art: it was turning me into a sadistic asshole. Just because tearing into the artistically impaired feels good doesn't mean it was doing me any good. Back on topic. For the record: The Nightmare Before Christmas is a 5/5 masterpiece. Anybody who's not artistically impaired would know this to be true.

Look here, pal o’ mine. If there is one person who understands art, and appreciates art possibly more than anybody on the planet, it’s me. And what I’m trying to say is, this ain’t art. Maybe you need to get a new prescription on those glasses, because you clearly, CLEARLY, do not have the eye for art.

I say The Nightmare before Christmas is overrated, and the next thingto happen is I get Maestro spitting social darwinism like he's Hitler incarnate. If being among the mainstream plebs meaning I'm not with the grease monk, well, slap that star on my uniform and send me straight to the gas chamber.

Oh, dear maestro of artistic enlightenment! Your profound insights into the realm of fine art leave us mere mortals in awe. It's like you've sprouted wings of creativity while we struggle to crawl in the mud of artistic inferiority. Your eloquent dissection of the Nightmare Before Christmas has opened our eyes to the majestic sixth sense we clearly lack. Alas, we must trudge through life with our mundane, art-blind existence, while you soar with the artistic eagles. Thank you, wise sage, for sparing a moment from your celestial artistic plane to grace us with your intellectual generosity. We bask in the radiant glow of your artistic superiority, forever aspiring to reach the lofty heights of your cultured mind.
It is nice to see that after all this time, and all these years, Melee Monk is still a know-it-all little shit

Spirit Bomb And just why would you assume he was baiting you? He didn't even say your name. And he's right. The movie's mid. It's just like Harry Potter, that it would've been all but forgotten if it weren't for the constant nostalgia-baiting.
On another note.....anyone got any movie suggestions?

WRONG.
That is a completely subjective opinion. The reality is the world hadn't seen a stop-motion feature film of this caliber since those Ranklin Bass films (i.e. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, etc.), and Nightmare Before Christmas makes those films look like last weeks moldy mashed potatoes. The animation in Nightmare Before Christmas was truly state of the art and innovative. I don't think we got another stop-motion animated film on the same scale as Nightmare Before Christmas until Chicken Run in 2000, roughly 7 years later. I mean, damn. That's a record-breaking feat almost comparable to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which relative to other CG animated feature films had a polygon count that wasn't outdone until after 2010, over 10 years after it hit theaters. James and the Giant Peach looked great but it was technically a live-action hybrid so you didn't get as much animation. I wouldn't say the animation in Peach looked better, either. On par? Yes, ok. But not really better. I didn't see Nightmare Before Christmas until I was 17, so I have no nostalgia for it. I couldn't fully appreciate it back then since I was still just an artistically impaired groundling at that time. But now as a scholar of the fine arts, I recognize Nightmare Before Christmas as a groundbreaking milestone of feature length animation. No nostalgia. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone wasn't technologically groundbreaking. The special effects in it looked nice, but it wasn't a benchmark for its respective field like the animation of Nightmare Before Christmas was. Bad comparison. Nostalgia has nothing to do with this. Don't listen to Balder, Centipede. Why the hell would you parrot an artistically impaired buffoon like Balder? WTF? Come on, you're smarter than this.

Spirit Bomb Seriously, my dudette. The premise was original and the stop-motion was clever, but for me, that was it. Just another kid flick. Beyond the movie, I've only seen it on merchandise, among all the other nostalgia bait merch with the likes of He-Man, Scooby Doo, etc. not to mention those fucking Funko Pop figurines. They all sell, whether we like them or not. Same with Harry Potter, it was always overrated.

If you were to access it, then you would understand the artistic genius of The Nightmare Before Christmas. One day, you might learn to harness that power. It's waiting there for you, Centipede!
