A big thing for Netflix in 2015 was that they started releasing a tone of original shows. My impression is that they are becoming more and more like HBO where the original programs are premium and it becomes the standard quality you expect. If you think about it HBO is about the same price, Netflix feels cheaper because paying Internet feels more of a necessity than paying cable, so we don’t count that.
Netflix has started releasing a bunch of shows in so many different forms of entertainment people watch, covering all kinds of tastes trying to appeal to all their viewers, in which case it was inevitable for them to start making Anime shows, since Anime was definitely one of the many types of entertainments that moved Netflix forward to what it is today.
So when I heard they had a few original anime series it got me interested because everything I watched from Netflix that was original was good, so I was obviously expecting good quality from these Anime shows as well.
The first one I came up to was Knights Of Sidonia. I started watching the first 2 episodes and I was super bored because they were moving too fast, it was also hard to distinguish the characters because they looked almost the same, so that made me get lost when they were saying something relevant related to someone, and it made me move onto watching something else instead.
So I end up watching The Seven Deadly Sins which is a mix of many popular Anime series blended into one unique story, a mix that makes the show great indeed, it started slow like most anime series and towards the end the quality of the plot resembled series as big as Dragon Ball Z. It was easy to get hooked because even though it starts slow, is funny, dorky, and stupid, and that keeps you engage.
So after finishing The Seven Deadly Sins and the great satisfaction I got from the show, I decided to give Knights Of Sidonia a second chance, in my mind it couldn’t make sense how the show could be original, have two seasons, and not be engaging, something good must be in there somewhere.
I’m glad I gave the show a second opportunity because by the time I hit around episode 4, I was hooked for good. Things started to click and at that point I just could not stop watching it because the show became this amazing masterpiece all of the sudden.
After the first season ended I was blown away of how good it was and obviously I started watching the second season too. But then the second season started slow, with a plot not very unique, and I was disappointed because after being blown away with the first season the series started to feel generic, so I just wanted to go back to the strong emotions of the first season.
However I was too invested already by having watched the whole first season that I decided to keep watching. And hell I was wrong about the second season because around episode 4 the season started to become this ultra massive master piece of excellence, I couldn’t believe it.
The first time Tsumugi appears and salutes in space, amazing, or when she goes straight to fight that massive evil gauna that just appeared, heaven to my eyes, if there is a mecha alien future sci-fi show that you just can’t stop watching because it's so good is this one, this is one of the most satisfying watching experience I have had with a show.
You can’t go wrong with this, definitely give it a try. The whole premise of the show makes me love shmups like Gradius, Caladrius, Raiden, and the like, even more, specially with those epic background intense dramatic chorus in battle you also hear in Darius Burst. This show was super cool indeed.
(Pure OMG this is so surreal ^^^^^)
(Just look at that artwork ^^^^^. Even Tekken wish it looked this cool)
I also have to say the music for both seasons was pretty badass as well, I’m starting to understand what’s the big hype behind all these Anime soundtracks, it is finally clicking now, at first I thought it was just nonsense, but if you listen to this is like a mixture of Rhapsody Of Fire with Daft Punk and Sega’s Miku, it’s silly and cool at the same time. The whole show is super cool and I highly recommend it.
(Drummer looks cool, they both do ^^^^^)
By the way, I like that Angela song so much that I bought the actual EP on iTunes, LOL!
It looks that the new site works, test passed! :-)
