Mark joined the chat! It's good to see him back in the fold.
I don't think we will see the world of gaming go completely digital in our lifetimes, because there will be a market for those of us who are fighting back. However, I hear Gen Z and Gen Alpha lean towards all digital out of convenience. If that happens, then I may join the PC gaming world exclusively. I don't really see a purpose for consoles in that scenario.

Streaming games is the worst. There is simply not the infrastructure for something like that, and we are likely decades away from having it.

I bought a VCR with plans of recording my remaining tapes to hard disk. Then I had the idea of a Cloud where the Pub can all upload our taped movies.
But then I realised there's a hitch, at least from my corner of the world: Australia's internet is notoriously slow.
At this current time, there is no way in hell streaming games is going to take off down under. If the big corpos go fully digital, we at least have the 2nd hand market, and things like the Evercade.

Here's an issue we will face: preserving our physical media. How long will paper sleeves and O2 absorbers extend a game's lifespan?

Consoles: what I read was that consoles with more moving parts, like optical drives, tend to break down sooner. So, if you were to keep collecting NEW stuff, it would have to be new games made for retro consoles, e.g. 8-bit Guy's Attack of the PETSCII Robots on a Mega Drive HD. Unfortunately, it might feel like a downgrade, especially if you're a Gen Z or Gen Alpha.

I hear about this every now and then. Why isn't high speed internet improving there? According this one article I read online: - Outdated infrastructure, some places still use copper wire
- Lack of competition in providers. The biggest 2 are Telstra and Optus. Then there's others, like iiNet, Exetel, Kogan and Dodo
- The population isn't dense enough in some areas to make it cost effective. Apparently.
- The fact that Australia's a big country with a whole lot of desert in the middle, so most of the lines are laid AROUND the country, where the people are.
- How much the government body in charge of the National Broadband Network (nbn) charges.
