This was a suggestion by stratogustav . Why Barbie? Wren't all those chicks you used to photograph not plastic enough for you?
Not to be confused with Klaus Barbie, the late Gestapo leader also known as "The Butcher of Lyon".
Year: 2023 Starring: Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling Director: Greta Gerwig Written by: Greta Gerwig, Noah Baumbach

So in my mind I bought tickets for D-Box Oppenheimer online. When I showed up to the theater, I printed my tickets, they told me what hall to go to, and sure thing I went in, sat down, saw all the commercials, and all of the sudden I noticed the movie starting wasn't Oppenheimer, it was Barbie.
I immediately doubled checked my tickets, and yup, I made the mistake at home without even noticing it. My wife was mad, she wasn't mentally ready for Barbie yet, she was expecting Oppenheimer just like me. But at that point it was too late, I couldn't do anything about it, we end up watching Barbie.
So initially I thought the movie was going to be George Soros 1 on 1, full of the latest wave of metoo feminism and divisive woke propaganda. And sure thing, all those things were presented 100% throughout the entire movie.
However the movie had three levels. The surface level full of feminism, the middle level full of red pill, and then a deeper level full of gnosticism. This was a dynamic I was not expecting at all. So it honestly came as a nice surprise, that I actually end up enjoying the movie.
It felt like a fan service movie, not particularly just for Barbie lovers, but for those that recognize references from all those three levels of messaging.
That said, those levels were not that hard to spot on, so it's not like The Matrix Trilogy that you can an enjoy watching multiple times and still have fun watching those references. This one is one of those good to watch maybe once just to play the game of recognizing them and then move on.
I still felt this was a solid movie despite the criticism, and the humor was not as bad as one would expect, plus Margot Robie's legs were looking great here, specially from behind.

Wasn't Ken the real hero and the real oppressed one?

Wasn't Ken the real hero and the real oppressed one? Exactly, that's the second layer I mentioned, the "red pill" middle layer. I was actually not surprised to see that second layer, and the reason is that to me it makes sense it was included because the brand Barbie in real life was affected by the whole woke thing, which they reference with the girl at the table saying all those things against Barbies. So from the news I remember from real life, it was obvious that the brand had some level of anger against the woke movement because of this, so I found very fitting that the second level was all about red pill. That said, the third level where they reference gnostic concepts really came as a surprise because I wasn't expecting that, this isn't a Wachowski brothers movie or anything, so it was pretty refreshing to see the movie had a bit of extra depth.

It holds up to expectations. I can't disagree. As I mentioned, all those things were present throughout the movie 100%. That said, it was only true with what I already expected from the movie.

I've heard it called woke, heard it called low-key anti-woke, but also accidentally anti-woke, as types like Greta Gerwig surround themselves with yes men who enable everything they say and do. That's what happens when you live in a bubble and start thinking you can do no wrong.

I've heard it called woke, heard it called low-key anti-woke, but also accidentally anti-woke Funny, how all those can be accurate at the same time. What Greta Gerwig didn't seem to realise is people tend to root for the underdog. People were keen for Luigi to have his own games. Waluigi has a cult following. Rorschach from Watchmen was supposed to be a mentally ill loner with mommy's issues, but people lived how he was always sticking to his principles and was willing to die for them. Meanwhile, Ken Gosling wanted to be more than just a cheerleader and accessory. He no longer wanted to be taken for granted. By default, the Kens were the underdogs in Barbieland, who were the priveliged ones. So, he begins a revolution... Ironic, how highly priveliged, out-of-touch women think they speak for all those lower in the pecking order.
