The bandai wonderswan released on march 4, 1999 in japan but never saw a release outside of japan. Its the true successor to the gameboy, being developed by Gunpey Yokoi before his fatal car accident. Yokoi would obviously never live to see it released but I imagine if he did he would have been proud to see it sell 3.5 million units over its lifespan especially when considering it was going up against Nintendo. At one point the Wonderswan had 8% of the market share which is not bad all things considered.
As you can tell I am a big fan of this system as I have brought it up on several occasions. I currently have about 19 games for it and have my eyes set on having 6 more games for it soon. I have a backlit ips modded crystal but still want to pick up an original wonderswan in white and another in orange with blue buttons digimon special edition.
Yes, I know I am very late on this since the 25th anniversary was in march and its now August but I saw that there was an anniversary post for the original gameboy so I had to make one for its successor the wonderswan.

That Gunpey Yokoi fact is key to understand the significance of this system and why it was so well received. Definitely a household name in the handheld history worth honoring for its relevance and how well executed the intended function of the system. No wonder the biggest devs supported the system during its lifespan in the market.

It will be a while yet before I can get a good picture of my wonderswan stuff together. I currently still don't have my system back from my friend and I don't have that or any of games I ordered so far. I actually plan to order more for it on Monday and I am also waiting for my green wonderswan to get here in the mail.

I got my wonderswan crystal back from my friend. The new ips screen in it is gorgeous.

Pictures of my wonderswan collection and my backlit modded ips swancrystal and ngpc. Still buying more games for my wonderswan and have a lot more to get yet. Some of the more expensive titles for the wonderswan are repro's just because I cant justify spending that kind of money on one game. I also own one cib game and 2 manual only's
