Boris Karloff movies are legendary.
When it comes to Brendan Frazer, I always thought his movies were parodies, even when they weren't. For some reason he always striked me as a comedian, even if he wasn't doing comedy.
When I saw The Rock joining the King Scorpion movies, I also thought the same thing. To me these movies looked like they were parodies just like the Scream movies, so it was hard to take them seriously.
That said, many people I know feels nostalgic for some of these movies, and they like them. I would have to watch them again, but my expectations would still be low.
Now with Tom Cruise I didn't watch it because it felt like someone was trying to make something serious out of a series that was mainly a parody, and I was expecting it was going to come off as try hard.
But these are just ideas based on nothing. All these movies could be something completely different, and I just don't know about it because I don't recall any of them, and some I straight up haven't watched.

The Karloff movies are the standard for the golden age of movies, but I've got to be honest with you. I haven't seen that in over 30 years. It is funny that I say that, because it has been 20 years since I've seen the Brendan Frazer movies. I liked the first two a lot, but I remember not being happy with the 3rd one, because The Rock ruined it for me. The CG sucked hard for the time it came out, so I might want to see that again just to laugh at it. I haven't seen the Tom Cruise movie, because I remember everyone making fun of a Universal monster universe being like the Marvel Universe with Tom Cruise as the lead. Now that I think about it, it might have been fun.
In conclusion, I need to watch these movies again. I think I'll get the kids to watch them with me.

The 1932 version was a little slow but pretty creepy.
The 1999 version was more like a spiritual successor to Indiana Jones, and it was quite corny at times. A more light-hearted popcorn flick.
Can't comment on the 2017 version. Haven't seen it.

Can't comment on the 2017 version. Haven't seen it. I was thinking about watching it, because it is free on Prime and Peacock. Then I saw this: OOOF.

Speak for yourself, I'm curious now. Be sure to give us a review. 2 out of 5. Some of the lines and characterisation from the main cast didn't seem to match up with the tone that the movie seemed to be going for. Near the end, Tom's character sacrifices himself but somehow didn't turn into a death god host, but he still had the power to revive his girlfriend. And the main villain just seemed to beat around the bush instead of just sacrificing him. And this movie seemed to be the first in some kind of modern day monster hunter series. Because you see bits of other monsters, like vampires and Black Lagoon monsters, preserved in jars at the secret hq. There was less scares and more CGI action. Script needed more ime in development.

centipede and dschult3 - I couldn't watch the 2017 one. After 25 minutes or so I had already formed a terrible opinion about it, so I gave up. The characters just felt very annoying from the get go. On the other hand, I've rewatched the 1999 version some months ago and it was still a very fun movie. It certainly feels how a late 90s Indiana Jones would be, with a good balance of adventure, comedy and horror. Too bad they dropped the ball on the sequels. Somehow, I haven't watched the classical Karloff version yet.
