Now, what I can't stand is dynamic dificulty. That's a very bullshit way to punish you for doing ok in a game. I mean, every time I was getting good at God Hand, the game immediatelly became impossibly hard with enemies killing me in one hit. To avoid that, I usually played badly on purpose, so the dificulty was kept on normal. I highly disagree here! Clover studio is the only developer that has done dynamic difficulty right, God Hand is considered by many to be the best beat em up game of all time. Getting lvlDie in that game is an adrenaline rush, and keeps the game entertaining and makes the player always on their feet. I don't think any developer attempted the dynamic difficulty thing after God Hand.

fsfsxii - God Hand is one of my favourite games ever and the game that introduced me to the modern beat'em up/character action/spetacle fighter genre (I played it before Ninja Gaiden/Bayonetta/Devil May Cry). But man, I hated having the dynamic dificulty. What happened is that every time I was playing it well, I died; every time I played it badly, I could actually finish the level. It was really strange because the game was punishing me for being slightly good at it. That's why I loathe dynamic dificulty in any game and I'm thankful not many games try it. I mean, if I choose playing it on medium, that's because want to actually play on medium; if I choose a hard mode, then I want to always be on hard mode. If the game changes its own dificulty without my choice, I feel cheated.

Dynamic difficulty is actually common, it is present in Mortal Kombat (2011) and lately I've noticed it in Revelator. The most common place to find it, however, is in shmups. Most shmups I have for Ps3 feature dynamic difficulty.

It's on hard for me too, or at least one setting above normal whenever possible. I find that will force you to learn & assimilate the dynamics of the game faster, and hence improve and enjoy the game more by evolving your technique sooner. Otherwise it can be by the next playthrough or even later before you figure out your personal best way to play it. Unless you're either Metal Gear, Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden or Thunder Force, one playthrough is typically enough for me thanks. I have sooo many gheymes to get through... I don't mind dynamic, as long as it isn't getting easier. That'll be like the game's looking down on me or something... What!?! Show me your true power!!

Yeah, games aren't usually very fun if there's no challenge to it.

Then you, my friend, simply need to git gud I honestly loved the dynamic difficulty aspect of God Hand, every time i would reach lvlDie i would get an adrenaline rush try my hardest not to get hit. Imo, this type of game, similar to NG and DMC are only fun when played on higher difficulty

Looks like fsfsxii has evolved beyond a normal gamer... more aware than the rest... He has become one with the machine...

leaon79s - He sees everything in code! fsfsxii - But I got good! And still found it annoying. I just loathe dynamic dificulty. On replays, it's not bad since you're already used to the game's mechanics, but when you're playing it for the first time, it just throws lvlDie at you out of nowhere and then you die before you learn how to deal with it. I prefer playing God Hand entirely on lvlDie (which you can, after you've already beaten the game once) than see the game changing its own dificulty. Keep in mind I love absurdly hard games, what I don't like is inconsistent dificulty - which dynamic dificulty always look like to me. spidershinobi - Yep, a lot of shmups do that, including my favourite one, Layer Section. I didn't know that at first, so I just thought I sucked at the game when I reached a later level without dying and the enemy patterns seemed much harder than before. Maybe that's my main problem with shmups - I love the genre, but I just cannot git gud [ ] at them, and dynamic dificulty *may* be a factor. Well, I still love them no matter what. Layer Section, Soukyugurentai and Astebreed are just SO good!

On older games like Quake where the enemy AI isn't that sophisticated, I play the hardest.
I played hardest on Farcry 3 - kept dying. Had to adjust it lol
On Torchlight, I'm playing hardest with my Alchemist (mage) and hard for my Destroyer (warrior), who's on Hardcore/Permadeath mode.

I'm sad to report that i haven't beaten Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on Master Ninja. Game is insane.

I've been noticing that a lot of streamers are playing games in easy mode to keep the stream going. It makes me want to puke.
