I should remind you that even Sonic Colors/Generations, which are absurdly great games, got the standard 8/8.5 scores from Gamespot/IGN. It's not bad, but 8 for a game generally considered great is usually seen as the reviewer being nitpicky for no reason, which was certainly the case for those games. So yes, even the high points in the frachise are doomed to be reviewed, at best, as "ok" games. In what world is 8 just "ok"? An 8 is good, dude.

In IGN land, anything below an 8 is an unplayable piece of shit.

Also, can't wait to see some gameplay for the other game they teased, although I'm not sure why they bothered to bring classic Sonic back or why the game has such a serious tone. If sonic had to have some friends help him, wouldn't that be a good opportunity to make tails or Knuckles relevant again? If Sonic and Tails were together again, I prefer it to be like a Dreamcast version of Sonic 4 E2: press the Y button to do a buddy action with Tails! What I hated about Sonic Heroes was the constant swapping between characters that killed the momentum. I think it would make gameplay more interesting if Sonic and Tails were together again. As for Knuckles, maybe Sega has some leftover werehog levels somewhere...

Funny fact: look at the Youtube comments for the Sonic 2017 teaser. A lot of comments are criticizing Sega for not being innovative, for "doing a sequel to Generations". And Mania is being criticized for exploiting nostalgia. So it goes like this: Lost World - "Generations was perfect, why they changed everything again? Or why not use the classic 2d gameplay?" Sonic Boom - "Why have they redesigned the characters? Why have they changed the gameplay again? Why not go back to Colors/Generations or do a new 2d game?" Sonic Mania/2017 - "No one needs a sequel to Generations! They are just banking on nostalgia! Where is my Adventure 3?" Man, that is the worst fanbase ever. Everything I wanted was something like the classics or like Generations, and it seems they are doing both things, so I couldn't be more optimistic about it. Whenever they bring up the Sonic cycle, they always conveniently forget that they gave recent games good reviews. If they did, then the joke wouldn't work! And I totally agree on certain fan expectations. I guess you just can't please everyone. At least most of the community seems optimistic about Mania, considering some of their own were recruited to make the game. I'm looking forward to both. I don't think I've been this excited about Sonic since the Dreamcast came out. Time for antother copypasta'd link: link
