The long dark is a open world survival game set in the Canadian wilderness. It challenges you to think about where to go next, how to conserve your resources, and how to deal with mother nature. I've played about 5 hours of it so far and its definitely worth checking out. My PC can just manage to run it as it meets the minimum requirements even if I have to run it at low settings. The game is not really finished yet as I believe its still in the alpha stage. There's no story mode yet only survival mode or sandbox mode and challenge mode.
On my first playthrough, the fourth day came and I got killed by wolves. So I just started a new one today and have done a lot better then before. I found a farm house and have been using it as my base of operations for my second playthrough until I have enough supplies to head out and explore some more.
Weapons that I know of so far are the bow and arrow and a .303 rifle. There might be more then that though.

Update on my second playthrough. Had a close run in with death. Got lost from my main base looking for wood and ended up in a snow storm at night with no where to go. I dont know where I'm at now but at least I found a bed to sleep in since I left the sleeping bag back at the main base. I hope I can find another one around. I almost didn't make it and was at only 20% condition.

Yeah, it's just us, it seems.  While it looks fun, I haven't been in the mood for playing survival games for a few years by now - I always loved the idea of the genre and there are plenty of great choices nowadays, by I think I'm more attracted to action games and story based games right now. |

They are supposed to come out with a story mode for the long dark. I dont know when they are going to though. Cervantes how good is your computer? I bet its better then mine. |

I play PC... 15 years ago... Haaah!(i.e when PC gheymes were unique and special and NOT the same as console gheymes....)But you would be right. We are (mostly) PlayStation and Nintendo people here! Little room for Master Race fascists.  |

I would never go back to console gaming after I played PC. I'll only play consoles from back then not from today. I love the freedom I have with my games that I can get on PC. I love how we have actual backwards compatibility that can go back years. I was tired of dealing with consoles bullshit.

Haha, I'm not only a Xbox guy, but of course it's my favorite console series. I actually bought a PS3 a couple of weeks ago, and I'm planning to play it next weekend as my summer job is finally over. Then I'm going to play Heavy Rain, the most sought after PS3 game IMO.
