That's such an awesome find. I didn't know this existed. That's so much money right there. Thanks for sharing.

OH MY GOD thank you, this is awesome! I was subscribed to NP for 2 years at one point. That was about 4-5 years before it was discontinued, so I missed out on a lot of Nintendo Power. I can't wait to catch up.

Wait, WTF? How come it only goes up to the June 2001 issue? Are they still adding new issues to the archive?

Even so... I don't care for Nintendo (much). But even I can see the kewlness of such an archive...
Even the Playboy payed archives aren't as detailed... (Yes, I had a subscription for a time)

The interesting thing is, the archive was created by the folks over at RetroMags.com, who, apparently, no one seemed to give credit to even though someone else had uploaded all the magazines to Archive.org SEVEN MONTHS AGO. It's like, out of nowhere, every gaming media website picked up on the story as if it had just happened and not one of them seemed to credit RetroMags.com. Kind of sad. Even worse, thanks to all that media coverage, Nintendo got wind of it and had them all taken down last week.
And, so you are aware, the reason it stopped at 2001 is because RetroMags generally only allows scans of issues going back 15 years for various legal reasons.

WHAT THE F%$K???!?!?! What is even the point of Nintendo removing these pages?? It's a DISCONTINUED magazine for Christ's sake! It's not like Nintendo can or is still making money of it, so what gives?
Screw you Nintendo.

They're protecting their IP, which, legally, they kind of have to do. If they let people just take their published work and post them without consent, it devalues the intellectual property in the eyes of the law. So much that if someone ever decides they want to profit off of it, Nintendo would actually have to go to court to prove that the property wasn't devalued and explain why they didn't go after one group for posting it while going after another that was. Chalk that up to our legal system.
And, as sad as it may be, think of how Nintendo deals with their Gaming properties as opposed to how Sega deals with their properties. NES and SNES games are constantly on the rise. N64 and GCN titles are following. Look at Sega's stuff for the Genesis. Very little value for most of it. But why? Nintendo is very protective of their games. Sega licenses out their stuff to pretty much anyone and a lot of the time, what gets released is of low quality.
When the NES Mini was announced, a LOT of people were talking about it. A lot of my non-gaming friends or people who hadn't played them in years asked me about it. Meanwhile, AtGames was quick to announce their next iteration of their 80-in-1 Genesis clone system. No one really cares about that system, because they know that it's a cheap imitation with bad emulation and sound. Plus, they know they can get the Sega games anywhere... PS2, PSP, Xbox 360, PS3, STEAM, various virtual console packages. To get the Nintendo stuff, they need to get it from Nintendo. They expect a higher quality, because Nintendo gives a higher quality. And Nintendo can get away with asking $60 for it. If Nintendo licensed out their warez to 30-in-1 plug & play companies, no one would care. This is why Nintendo is big on cracking down on piracy and SEGA promotes letting you download roms of their stuff.
