Visual novels, oh boy do I have some trouble with these (just ask my man dschult3 who I owe a long overdue review for Shadowgate 64). Fortunately - for me anyway - Time Hollow practically plays itself with minimal interaction so I actually got a chance to enjoy the game's writing, storytelling, music and animations all of which were expertly crafted. If you want to talk credentials, the game's script writer, Junko Kuwano, has worked on entries in the Suikoden series as well as her own game on the PS2, Shadow of Destiny/Memories (contingent upon region). Usually I'm a bit more in depth with this written section but with Visual Novel games, reviewers have to take care not to divulge too much so that's exactly what I did here and in the video. I will say that as you play through the game, it crescendos into this grand fiasco all of which I worked hard to keep out of the video while still keeping things interesting (if you can follow along). The online price is a little high at about 25 bucks a cartridge but I got mine at GameStop for $2.99 US so either find it that way or through a friend who will let you borrow it as you can play through the game in 4 - 5 hours. I hope you enjoy the game (And review). If anyone has played this game or similar titles (on the DS especially), please share your experience(s) as I'm sure we can all benefit from hearing EDIT: throw in a rating for ya * * * * ( *) / * * * * *I'm a little blinded by nostalgia at TH being my first finished visual novel game so I left the fifth star in parentheses and it's a short game with a generally laid out path which personally, I like, but I can see that facet going both ways.

I did enjoy the review, I may have heard of this game but if I did I forgot about it. Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk, Ghost Trick, and 999 are always the ones I think of.

Thanks! I always hear about 999 but I think it's missing an extra 9 XP Phoenix Wright is one of those series I ought to delve into but I never get a good sense for what it's like to play the game. I hear the Trilogy pack on the 3DS is a good place to start.

"Any media that teaches something about yourself outside of the media is worth noticing and talking about." I like that you said that. Good story lines can definitely touch your soul and change you to your core. (FF IV and VI will be a part of me until the day I die.) I am happy to see that you experienced that in a good way. Games rarely do that these days for me. The story line looks great in this game, and I quite the fan of more mature story telling. If I had a DS, I probably would pick this one up due to your recommendation.
I read some other reviews on this game, and people were complaining about the lack of actual "game play." Point and click games are generally a thing of the past, but I noticed on the YouTube comments that you haven't really played the old ones. Since you're a new comer to the genre, what did you think about it?

Since you're a new comer to the genre, what did you think about it? "If I had a DS, I probably would pick this one up due to your recommendation." - hey, thanks man! that's quite the compliment. It's good to know my product reviews are convincing. "I read some other reviews on this game, and people were complaining about the lack of actual "game play."" - I actually read some of those reviews beforehand and in order not to sound like every other reviewer, I tried to emphasize the storytelling aspect in hopes that viewers would understand that as a visual novel, the player driven action takes something of a backseat/feels unobtrusive. Having presumed others might feel a little lost at what wasn't discussed in the review and taken your query into account, I took the time to record a post-play discussion on the game and my experience with it. Spoilers are light so I wouldn't stress on ruining the experience for yourself but it is a semi-thorough examination of the game so bear that in mind: "Good story lines can definitely touch your soul and change you to your core." - Time Hollow isn't the first game where this happened to me but it wasn't one I expected it. The sense of enlightenment attained from new knowledge one can connect with is truly empowering and stories that tap into that tie have truly mastered the potential of the medium.
