Thoughts?
Personally I will not buy a greatest hits game unless it's something I really want to play. Although the main point of not buying greatest hits is so the games on a shelf don't have one sticking out. BUT on the PS3 there are already Three different labels (PlayStation 3, PS3, and PS3 Blue) so I should be less bothered.

I see no problem at all, except when the cover is really hideous/stupid, like that Konami one (original on left, best hits on right). Konami: Yo dawg I heard you like Castlevania, so I put a cover inside the cover so you can play the game while you play the game.

Yeah, I agree, sometimes I want to re-buy Super Mario Bros. Wii, it is the only red box I have. The only reason I haven't done it is because the cover is red, so it matches.
Oh wait, I also have Mario Kart 8, and that one is just plain annoying. I really want to at least change the box.
I also have Soulcalibur IV, but that box is at least gray, so it is not as annoying, I can leave with that one.
I used to have Ninja Gaiden Sigma, I even changed the box once, and it still didn't feel enough, so I end up giving it away as a gift to a friend, and re-bought it digitally when it finally came out on the online store. Most of my PS3 games are digital anyway.

They suck. Buy only if the original is that really much more spensive (or unavailable altogether...)
I have a few meself, and I regret not having just forked out the extra for the original versions of some of them now. (e.g Ninja Gaiden Sigma)
Then again, for collector types insisting on getting two copies of significant titles (i.e 1 to keep sealed and the other to play), the lower price point of the GH might come in handy for the play copy...

I absolutely hate them. I always go for original covers, and what I despise the most is that GameStop sometimes put a Xbox 360 classic disc inside an original cover version. I'll return that shit right away.

I avoid them but whatever, if I can get the exact same game for a cheaper price because the print is slightly different I'll buy the cheaper one every time. I always go for originals when possible though, naturally.

No issues with the Greatest hits covers in general, though if it is something particularly odd like Cervantes points out above, I would likely just print up a replacement cover.

Not unless it's the only cover available.

I'm fine with greatest hits generally, Playstation systems seem to have the worst looking ones. They never seem to stand out as much for Nintendo or Xbox.

Comparing the classics and platinum hits I might agree with you, don't get those here. I think the Nintendo Selects look the best.

I'm indifferent, if I want a game I just get whatever version is available, if I can get the same game for cheap then I'll obviously take the cheapest version available. Hell sometimes the re-print is rarer/more expensive than the standard version; the silver bottom Final Fantasy Chronicles that I posted here some time ago being an example of the former and the GTA games for the original xbox in the early 2000's being an example of the latter around here (Thanks Hillary Clinton). I see no problem at all, except when the cover is really hideous/stupid. You probably already know this, but black label games are generally worth more than the "greatest hits" ones. Final Fantasy 7 for the PSOne is a good example of this. That's actually a bad example; yes, the standard black label version is generally worth more than the standard greatest hits version. However the most expensive versions that I've seen are: A black label with a misprint of the word "masterpiece" in the back and a greatest hits version with a misprint of Sephiroth on both sides on the inside of the jewel case as seen below. I've actually seen this version going for more than any other version when sold in mint condition.

I don't care. I just want the game, preferably as cheaply as possible. What I like best is GOTY or other special editions, where all the DLC is included on the disk.
