Far Cry is easily one of my favorite modern FPS series. I'm currently playing through Far Cry 2 again, and I'm absolutely enthralled by the quality of the gameplay, the massive open world setting, and the production values. It's my favorite shooter from the 7th gen in terms of single player.
Although I haven't played it, I've heard great things about Far Cry classic on the PC. It was definitely cutting edge graphically for its time.
Far Cry 3 was way too stupid for me to tolerate, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's well made. I didn't play very far into it because I hated the plot+characters so much, but the gameplay was great as usual. I was also impressed that it comes packed with a full single player AND co-op campaign, both completely different. However, the complete lack of local multiplayer is unforgivable.
Far Cry 4 I know little about, and Far Cry Primal I know even less about (I haven't even seen any gameplay footage). I'm really disappointed that the incredible map-maker from the first 3 games has disappeared completely from the most recent games. That's always been the stand out feature in the series' multiplayer. How many other FPS games can you name that let you create an open-world map from scratch without the use of mods or kits? It's a huge loss if you ask me.
ANYWAYS,
Seeing as how the series has no single narrative, and is always set in a different location with each sequel, I've been wondering lately what the next Far Cry game will be like. Where will it be set? What time period? What sort of vehicles will there be?
Personally, I would like to see the series return to its roots by going back to a present day setting in a conflicted war-torn rural region, like northern Mexico or Columbia. I think these settings would work so well because of the variety of the terrain; in Mexico, the landscape would be a mix of mountains, deserts, and tropical dry forests, while in Columbia it would be a mix of tropical rainforest, grasslands, and mountains.
What do you want the next Far Cry game to be like? And what do you think of the series? What are your favorite games of the series?
Discuss.

MeleeMonk Sounds more like Far Cry 2 is one of your favourite FPS games, rather than Far Cry being one of your favourite FPS series. That said, I agree with leaon79s. More Blood Dragon is the way to go

More Blood Dragon is the way to go A sequel is possible, seeing the ending of Blood Dragon. 'Fry Cry', eh? That gives me a wicked idea: See where I'm going with this? CHK CHK BOOM! McD's mascots have always creeped me out.

The only one I've played is 3 (Blood Dragon included) and quite honestly I don't see where the games can go from there. On the one hand 4 tried to copy 3 and it failed misserably and Primal tried something different and it too failed misserably so uh... ... ... Well, here is a stupid idea that might work, set the game in a setting where you are an archeologist lost somewhere in the ruins of the incan sierra in a time period where Arthur Conan Doyle was still alive and in his prime.
With this being around 1876 all you would have for weapons bulky and heavy black powder rifles and pistols that take forever to reload and the setting would allow for some strange developments thanks to the general rise of independance wars in the americas, the exilement of natives and on top of it you can throw in some mumbo jumbo about sacred artifacts or whatever.
Basically, just do Tarzan ._.

I think far cry should just be stopped here. And Ubisoft should make a new game based on the American Civil war as you play as one guy thruout the entire campaign from enlistment to the slaughter of his brother by Indians, to major battles portrayed not as a glory boy idiot big chinned hero, but as someone caught in a conflict far bigger than their understanding. If this had a long campaign in semi-open worlds with a story of character development, growing up and moving on. AND they made only one instead of doing it to death it would sell gangbusters.

Hasn't Ubisoft used this setting/plot elements in their Call of Juarez series? I would approve a mix of Call of Juarez and Far Cry, it could be interesting.

Their ad campaigns? xD I've aIready said I didn't play either of them; To me 4 screams of nothing but the same with three times the amount of corporate bullshit (Were you around when SirAdam asked about this game?) and Primal just looks boring, as if it was just a game Ubisoft threw together to capitalize on the whole Steam Early Access survival game because that's what's popular amiright? It doesn't help that I'm not exactly in love with Ubisoft DRM services; I almost refunded Blood Dragon because of that fucking nonsense.

I think the next game in the Fry Cry series should feature Amy accidentally kicking Fry's balls on the cover. ... But seriously, I think the Far Cry series suffers from being visible. It seems to me that it is one of those series typically developed in Europe that just appeals to a niche very much like the least popular japanese games, but since it's a FPS and the devs work at Ubisoft it got more visibility than any other game in the same situation would normally get.

I barely even remember Sir Adam, so that would be "no". I also am curious as to what their DRM policies are like and why you dislike them so. Also, on this topic, I recently learned that Far Cry 2 is available at GOG.com, totally DRM-free. Did you know that?

Also, on this topic, I recently learned that Far Cry 2 is available at GOG.com, totally DRM-free. Did you know that? The last time we talked about FC4 around here happened because one of SirAdam's buds had acquired a copy of the game. Now, back when the game was still in its marketing campaign it was shown to support co-op, even if one party was missing a copy of the game, and sure enough his friend got a couple of keys so people could play co-op with him. However SirAdam was coming here to ask for help because the game had kicked him after a while and he couldn't rejoin anymore. As it turns out the extra keys were only demos that lasted 2 hours and all main missions were locked while playing in co-op, effectively locking everyone in the server to play free-roaming. The corporate bullshit doesn't stop there, however. Aside from the usual always-online Uplay bollocks the game also came packaged with anti-piracy integrated into it that would show nothing but a black screen when starting the game up, the problem obviously being that it was so poorly programmed it would turn the screen black when the game was acquired through abnormal conditions (For instance obtaining the game as a gift or on sale). It doesn't help that the game is extremely unpolished and there have never been official patches to fix the bugs and if you want to fix anything you have to download an unofficial patch that also comes with a tool that circumvents the anti-piracy and DRM services which begs the question of why the fuck would you buy an original copy of the game if the pirate version runs a hundred times better and requires no internet connection. As for their DRM policies, if I remember correctly Blood Dragon actually required me to create a Uplay account just to boot the damn game, then whenever I started the game it would a)connect to the account b)connect to the game server c)send the response back to the client AND THEN I COULD PLAY. It was a colossal waste of time, it could take up to 7 minutes to start the fucking game and even once it started the game decided to act "cute" by syncing up the achievements with my Uplay account, this wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't because I'm using a fucking mexican broadband connection that disconnects itself at random intervals of time and as a result it crashed the fucking game at least 3 times. /endrant And no, I didn't know Far Cry 2 was on Gog and I don't think I can afford it because of the current dollar-mexican peso exchange rate.

Dunno if I'd call it Far Cry a "series" any more. More like re-skins at this point. So with that in mind, let's borrow an idea from another UbiSoft "series" and make it a pirate game! [real pirates, not the bull shit modern ones plz]
