Added to the CGR review list.
This is also a game that I want to play, and I'm going to some day. Deus Ex Human Revolution is one of my all time favorites. But first I have to play the first one on PS2.

I have that gheyme! Never played it though. Bought ages ago but still in teh shrinkwrap... It's chronologically the last in the Deus Ex series (2nd in production order), but also supposedly the weakest in the franchise...

leaon79s yeah, pretty much everyone thinks this one is the worst in the series. Doesn't mean it's bad though.

Why do you guys keep choosing games I haven't played? WHYYYYY? I love Deus Ex, the first one. It really deserves its status as one of the best pc games ever. I'm not a huge fan of Human Revolution - it gets very close to the original, but it's not quite there (and the piss-filter visuals give me a headache after a time). But I haven't played Invisible War - from what I hear, it's not an atrocious game, and may not even be a bad one - it's just not a good sequel to Deus Ex. I heard one of the problems is it was made for consoles foremost, so some console limitations (like the limited RAM) meant the game had to tone down things like the size of the levels, which is a huge thing in a Deus Ex game. But, as I haven't played it yet, I can't confirm any of this.

I have never played any of these games. My brother played Human Divided and trashed it for me, so it took my desire to play it away.
Another Square Enix franchise I haven't give a try is Hitman, I saw the trailer and wanted to try it, but when I saw they made it episodic, I didn't do it anymore.
Life Is Strange, Sleeping Dogs, Thief, Murdered, never tried them, the only IPs I get from them are the Diablo Lara Croft games and the Tomb Raider reboots.
However I played the FF XV demo and it looks like they are fixing the combat on their RPGs for people like me. It is faster and even though you hold the button down it still hacks and slashes the way I like it.
Which means this time around I will jump into the genre, which I never liked because I didn't understand it. I'll try FF XV which looks promising, also NieR Automata, FF VII Remake, and even Kingdom Hearts 3. I have Drakengard 3, but I still need to start it.
Square Enix is one of those publishers I respect a lot but never really followed. I like what I see but there is only so much you can do.

Being the worst Deus Ex game means its still better than 90% of the games that are out there.

This one always interested me. First of all, I want to say that I'm sorry for picking a somewhat obscure title that not many people here have played. I was tempted to make a request for Balder/mod to do the entire Deus Ex series for a weekly discussion, which probably would've been the better choice. At any rate, I've been fascinated with this game ever since I watched the Gamespot review of it 6+ years ago. I was so amazed by the physics engine, which was impressive for such an early 6th gen release (2003 I think). That was back during a time when ragdoll physics were not widely used in games, especially first person games. so personally I think it was really cool to see them used in Invisible War. I have not played the game, but I was tempted to buy a copy for the original Xbox at one point. I've heard countless complaints that the PC version is very difficult to run on modern computers (not sure why), which is a shame because judging by the gameplay it seems like it would be much better suited for keyboard+mouse controls than gamepad. I've also heard that the Xbox version has minor framerate issues. Invisible War seems to be the single most disliked Deus Ex game by fans, by quite a wide margin. I think it may have to do with the level design and quality of the AI, which seem to be recurring complaints of this game. Also, here's the Gamespot video review for anyone who's interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQFl4ltWe4E

Also, here's the Gamespot video review for anyone who's interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQFl4ltWe4EIt doesn't run well because it wasn't designed for multiple processors. It was a big problem when it came out and dual core processors started becoming commonplace. At this point, I'd just get the xbox version. Its faithful enough and I think its pretty cheap. I remember the beef with the game was they really dumbed down the augmentation system. You could only have five augments at the same time or something. Overall, I liked the level design better in Invisible War compared to the first game, but the paired down augments were a real bummer. Its why I've only played though Invisible War once, and have played to others multiple times. Its still a solid game thats worth your time playing, its just the other games are flat out better. The original or Human Revolution are better jumping on points if anyone would want to get into the series.

Also, here's the Gamespot video review for anyone who's interested: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQFl4ltWe4EI think the game is worth discussing for the negative reviews on Steam alone. This game is... interesting. So interesting, in fact, that I would recomend playing the original game, skipping this title completely, and then playing Human Revolution. [...] [...]This game is not technically good. It is not even that fun. As an experience, it's a mediocre spiral into the depths of a deranged world. The prequel is amazing, and the first game is a masterpiece. This sequel is ultimately disappointing. It is basically just one of the many Godfather 3's of the game industry.
I have no idea how this game has a metascore of 80. It was a 67 at best when it was brand new; it's aged badly since then. It suffers badly from having been designed for the memory and control constraints of the original X-Box.[...] [...]The three main factions in the game, the Templars (hypocrtical neo-Luddities in power armor), the Illuminati (representing capitalist concerns), and the Dentons (who are trying to properly finish the Helios ending from Deus Ex 1) are all easy to hate. By the middle of the game I was annoyed with all of them. By the end, I decided to actively sabotage everyone, giving me the Omar Trader ending where the world burns in an apocolypse and Russian cyborgs end up ruling the cinders. I was actually happy with that, since the "good" endings required working with characters I had come to despise. On the up side, the game does have a somewhat interesting side story about a corporate war between two coffee chains. This was in no way a worthy sequel to Deus Ex 1, and would have been a better game if it'd been divorced entirely from that intellectual property.
If Deus Ex 1 is like attending an awesome live show of your favorite band putting on the concert of their lives, then Deus Ex 2 is like watching the overproduced, abridged, edited for content, strictly time controlled Super Bowl Halftime version of them playing a few of their greatest hits in between commercials.
It would be a lot better game if it was PLAYABLE.
Truly, a masterpiece befiting of the PC gaming master race.

Just saw Angry Joe's review of the new Deus Ex Mankind divided, and the story sounds like a mess. That's too bad since Human Revolution was such a magnificent game.

About that first statement: wouldn't a single processor be very inexpensive to aquire these days? Are they even made anymore? Would they be hard to find? Don't leave me hangin'! Guilion Ok, so you don't like the game's story, or characters, or gameplay. But what did you think of the physics engine? I mean, am I the only one who thinks it was impressive for its day? How many other games can you think of that used ragdoll physics at that time?
