About that first statement: wouldn't a single processor be very inexpensive to aquire these days? Are they even made anymore? Would they be hard to find? Don't leave me hangin'! An used one is inexpensive, but would you buy a new computer just to run one game? There's a very easy workaround for games like this, no need to buy a new CPU. To quote a post I found online, "Start the game, wait until the main menu hangs, bring up the Task Manager (i.e., press Ctrl+Shift+Esc). In the list of processes, search for the image: "DX2Main.exe". Right-click on it, and select "Set affinity", and select only ONE CPU core. It doesn't matter which one is selected. For me, there was no need to restart the game as the hanging state was gone." This is the standard fix for games with this problem (I just had to use it while playing Call of Juarez: Gunslinger to get rid of some stuttering, as this game is not optimized to CPUs with more than 4 cores). The only annoying thing about it is that you need to do this every time you start the game. It only takes 10 seconds or so to do, but it's mildly annoying.

It doesn't run well because it wasn't designed for multiple processors. It was a big problem when it came out and dual core processors started becoming commonplace. At this point, I'd just get the xbox version. Its faithful enough and I think its pretty cheap. I remember the beef with the game was they really dumbed down the augmentation system. You could only have five augments at the same time or something. Overall, I liked the level design better in Invisible War compared to the first game, but the paired down augments were a real bummer. Its why I've only played though Invisible War once, and have played to others multiple times. Its still a solid game thats worth your time playing, its just the other games are flat out better. The original or Human Revolution are better jumping on points if anyone would want to get into the series. About that first statement: wouldn't a single processor be very inexpensive to aquire these days? Are they even made anymore? Would they be hard to find? Don't leave me hangin'! Guilion Ok, so you don't like the game's story, or characters, or gameplay. But what did you think of the physics engine? I mean, am I the only one who thinks it was impressive for its day? How many other games can you think of that used ragdoll physics at that time? I know the processor question isn't directed at me but I'll answer for cobretti because he is my broda. No, acquiring a modern PC with a single processor would be extremely difficult these days, even the cheapest processor in the market, which imost likely is Atom, is a freakin' quad core regardless of the fact that it can only run at 1.33 GHz. Dual cores were mass marketed in 2006 so getting an used single core computer capable of running the game would also be a doozy. The only way that I'm aware that people can run the game properly is by setting the affinity of each and all .exe files so they run on a single core insted of being dumped in with the rest of the system processes by default. If I remember my wonderful time with this game back in 2010 correctly however this often causes the game to crash and the framerates to drop as if they were flies in the sahara desert as a physical core designed to run 4 logical threads is struggling to run a task using the space of all 4 threads at the same time, which is just fan-fucking-tastic. Maybe the game can run properly on AMD processors or a better processor than the Core 2 Duo I was running with at the time, who knows, I honestly don't care because I don't wanna play freakin' Invisible War again. Now, for the rest. The engine of ATV Quad Power Racing 2 had Ragdolls, it came out 11 months earlier than Invisible War and not only is it capable of rendering bigger levels at a time than Invisible War, it's also run-of-the-mill shovelware. Can't say I'm impressed with the engine. All the factions and characters in the game are easily hatable, none of them are remotely likable as pretty much all of them have corporate interests in mind or alternatively I remember this one fucking faction that wanted to make everyone equal and live happily ever after through comunism. The story really isn't all that great either as it tries to balance many eggs in one basket taking place after all three endings of Deus Ex happened at once. Can't say I'm impressed with the characters nor the story. The gameplay is basically a simplified version of Deus Ex less focused towards especialization in certain areas so you don't go around spending all your EXP points in poison resistance and swimming like real men do. Not only that but but the level design is oriented towards the Xbox, turning a pretty open game into narrow corridors with a low skybox and extremely fucking stupid AI, the final boss of this game is LEGENDARY because of how dumb it is. Can't say I'm impressed with the gameplay. Can't say I'm impressed with the game overall.

OH, and there's one other thing about Invisible War that I absolutely HAVE to bring up, and that is: t he ability to pick up + throw dead ragdoll NPCs. That is a feature that I wish EVERY action game had. Invisible War gives you complete freedom to manipulate dead NPCs to your heart's content. It's fucking awesome. Even Oblivion couldn't get that right. Cervantes Thank you for sharing that valuable info with us! Further proof that you are a genius when it comes to video games.

Just.... play the game by yourself and draw your own conclussions. Preferably after playing the prequel first.

I don't know why I've been thinking that this was being done by series instead of by each individual game.
Anyway, I've never played invisible war but I have played HR and some of the original. They were really good games from what I remember, and I liked how you could approach a mission in a number of different ways. I also loved the soundtrack of the first game, which had mostly the same composers that made the soundtrack for Unreal.

I recently found this video online in which the game's director, Harvey Smith, speaks very ill about his experience working on the game, and goes into detail about how he and his team "fucked up" the game's development. See it for yourself:
Interesting stuff for anyone with an interest in game design. I just thought I'd share that with you all.
By the way, I recently started playing Invisible War for the first time. Not a bad game, but it's hard to enjoy the Xbox version because the framerate is so freaking god awful.

I want to do a full run of all the Deus Ex games, but I need to get a hold of this and the original. Just got the newest one at a clearance sale for only 3 bucks!

I gave this game a chance, but I couldn't get into it. I got the first one, at least.

I hate to revive this thread again, but a video I recently saw on Youtube covering Invisible War really shined a lot of light on the game:
For anyone who's interested in the game (like I am) it's definitely worth a watch. It's a very comprehensive examination of everything right and wrong with the game.

I just thought of something: What if instead of being called Deus Ex: Invisible War, it had been released under the title Deus Ex Part Deux?

I didn't care for the original Deus Ex so I never bothered much with the successors. I don't think I own a single game in the entire series.

I played the latest one and hated the first 10 minutes of it. My mind even blocked it, I had to delete, but I may give it another chance in the future just to say I tried.

You know what? I'm coming out of the closet as an open fanatic of Invisible War. I'm currently playing through it on Xbox and I absolutely love the game. I've sunk 20 hours into it so far and I think it's a good game all around, ESPECIALLY how it faithfully carried over the original Deus Ex's interactivity and implemented it with the introduced physics engine (you can pick up and throw almost any physics-based object). In fact, the ragdoll physics in general are excpetionally good; when you pop off a guard with a well placed headshot with the sniper rifle, they summer-sault backwards head over heels. These kind of ragdoll physics just aren't seen in games anymore and it's a damn shame. It's worth buying for the interactivity alone, and considering you can snag it for next to nothing these days (my Xbox copy cost me $2), I say it's absolutely worth it.
I proudly award it a 5/5 for its interactivity alone.
