The " What are you listening to?" topic is fun, but here I was considering a more specific idea. So in this topic we talk about music that reminds us of specific videogames! Rule #1: this is NOT a topic about music from videogames, the songs/tracks we'll talk about can't be part of any game! So I can't, for example, come here and talk about how Grum's Heartbeats reminds me of Saints Row. Rule #2: try to avoid clutter. Purpose: aside from discussing, the idea is helping ourselves coming up with replacement playlists for when we are tired of the default soundtrack of whatever game but still would rather have something that fills in with the same atmosphere. Without further delay... Game it reminds me of: The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil ( info) After listening to a few tracks by Shingo Nakamura I noticed how they sounded noticeably similar to those from Touhou games, but I decided to start the topic showing this one because of how much it reminds me of my favorite game/story in that series, 東方紅魔郷 ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, in particular how it strikes the same "places" that the main menu theme did and how invigorated I feel to just begin playing! And just for reference:

The music: Bastian's happy flight (from The Never Ending Story's OST):
It reminds me of any moment in a fantasy jRPG in which you get a flying transport. For reference, here is the Airship music from FF6:

Airship Pirates by Abney Park, I don't know why this isn't in Guns of Icarus already. It's sooooo perfect!
The U.S.S. Make-Shit-Up by Voltaire, this one I would like to hear in an space exploration game like Mass Effect, just give the guy in charge of the engine a portable radio and have him whistle the song while doing medial chores.
While we are on the subject of Voltaire I think the entire "To the bottom of the sea" album should be featured in a pirate game somewhere. I personally had some of the songs playing in the background as I was exploring random islands and sinking ships in AC IV.
And finally Nightcrawler by Judas Priest. I have always wanted to hear this one playing as the theme of a boss battle. Something along the lines of Devil May Cry or Bayonetta.

Fighter by Christina Aguilera reminds me of KOF. Which is funny because the song is about cheating.
"'Cause it makes me that much stronger Makes me work a little bit harder It makes me that much wiser So thanks for making me a fighter Made me learn a little bit faster Made my skin a little bit thicker Makes me that much smarter So thanks for making me a fighter"
LOL!
Also anything by Lupe Fiasco reminds me of Street Fighter III Third Strike, even though he is a completely different rapper than the actual one in the game.

When I was a kid, nearly every pop song on the Top 40 was a potential Sonic level, like Deep Forest, which matched up so well with the Jungle Zone on Sonic for the SMS.
Yellow Magic Orchestra were 16-bit before 16-bit was invented.

Game it reminds me of: FolkloreI was going to leave this one for later, but since we are already talking about sea around here I thought it would be interesting to come right back at that topic. So, Saltwater is now quite an old song, what you can listen up there is a remix that just came out. The connection I feel that can be made with Folklore certainly isn't any similarity with its soundtrack, but rather everything else. First, the game is set in Doolin, a coastal village in Ireland; then themes of feeling something missing and of coming to realization are also central themes for the main character, the language in the song itself (amazing intoner, btw), and also the part that characters literally trance in that game. And yes, you can go into the sea in Folklore. Cervantes, that actually reminded me of Wind Waker for some reason... Maybe it's because I'm drunk, that Voltaire dude made me attack my Jägermeister. By the way, one thing about love songs is that the really cool ones should always be interpreted as fighting couples, because if husband and wife never fight or spar, then it's just fake love they make at night.

Incidentally Voltaire also has a song about couples fighting, Christian couples at that ._.

Game it reminds me of: Zone of the Enders
There's something about Flashback that kind of makes me think of something more techy, to the point of giving me Zone of the Enders flash backs. That game is one that I'd love to go back to, but 2 things keep me from doing that right now: the lack of another difficulty level and the fact the sequel made the story of the first incredibly cruel and depressing. But you know what is not depressing? Jorn van Deynhoven's Flashback. It feels energetic, but at the same time weird in that just like a few trance tracks it's got a very short climax, specially in comparison to its full length, and to make it weirder it's also an atypical drop. It works great, though.

Guilion that's a very funny comparison, couples and fighting games, they are definitely both fighters, LOL! This is the song I was referring to. I just found it on YouTube. It has nothing to do with KOF, yet it has KOF written all over the chorus, LOL!

I was watching Mr. Robot this week (awesome series, by the way), and man, the entire soundtrack just keeps reminding me of Deus Ex for some reason.
