The hell are they thinking with that stick controller? Even the 360-knockoff controller looks pretty shoddy. Seeing Splatoon being shown as some hardcore E-sports game got a good laugh out of me though. Also, It's nice to see that Nintendo may be working on an actual 3D Mario game.
The trailer didn't really win me over, but the whole thing could've been worse. Maybe the Switch will be a success?

I have to say I'm not very impressed by now. This probably means they won't be releasing both a console and handheld in the future (since this one also works as a handheld), so while it might be a worthwhile successor to the Wii U, I'm worried about it being a successor to the 3DS. Mostly because of the loss of the dual screen setup, the (by now) apparent loss of the 3d effect and maybe even the stylus. Also, that huge unprotected screen will definitely get scratched very quickly if used as a portable. So, to me, as a portable, this seems like a lot of steps back; as a console, it probably won't be as powerful as the new PS/Xbox (since it's also a portable), so we don't know for how long third parties will support it - we all remember how third parties abandoned both the Wii and the Wii U claiming they were not powerful enough. And showing Skyrim as the main game in the trailer is definitely not doing it any favors, since it's a game from before the standard PS4/Xbone were even released...
I hope in future trailers/announcements we discover it has a proper touch-screen and 3d capabilities at least, but frankly, I am kinda disappointed right now. Maybe it will have a really good line-up of exclusives?

As usual, I will buy one. I like the concept. I think this is what they were trying for with the Wii U, but they couldn't get the price point low enough. That led to a compromise. I guess the biggest surprise I saw in the video was Skyrim. That wasn't expected at all. I'm wondering when the specs will come out though.

It just might work. I'd change that xbox controller into something more original looking though.

Yup, between my brothers and I, we are looking at 4 consoles already sold.
I'm excited for the new 3D Mario, 3D World is my favorite 3D Mario, and Super Mario 64 is my second. This strikes me more like Super Mario 64 which is fine by me.
I particularly love the commercial because it made me realize I do want to take this on the plane when I travel to El Salvador or to visit my family at the East Coast. Breath Of The Wild on the go is a no brainer.
I saw they added the Ghost dude to Mario Kart 8 and those are new hairstyles for Splatoon, they are marketing it as an E-Sport game now which is cool.
My favorite thing is that it is not a big ass console. Even my PS4 would look rudimentary next to this thing. It doesn't look like a Fisher Price tablet anymore, this is definitely adult looking. It has a built-in holder like Kid Icarus Uprising that is a plus.
We didn't see any families on the trailer which means this is aimed to the same Pokémon Go crowd.
For the size of the console I would imagine most of the storage will have to be external again just like on the Wii U, but that's fine because a 1TB hard drive goes around 50 bucks now like the one I have for my Wii U.
We are back at cartridges which is great because they are clearly superior to Blu-Ray discs in terms of capacity, loading times, durability, patches, updates, DLC, and save data.
I'm not a fan of the new pad, it looks cheap, this may be the first console where I might consider 3rd party pads instead. Hopefully Madcatz, Hori, and the like come up with something cool like the Fighting Commander 4, but with dual analog sticks.

Really surprised. Firstly by the general lack of interest for the Switch ITT. Secondly, that Cervantes uses the 3D on his 3DS. I thought everyone turned that off? I'm pretty much in love with this thing. Looking forward to seeing the launch lineup and the price point. Also hoping that it's region-free, though obviously not holding my breath.

3D with that size of a screen would had been really nice though. It doesn't look like it will have backwards compatibility with the 3DS because those cartridges on the commercial look different.
What I'm more excited about is what I said in another thread before about how Nintendo softwate development is pretty much devided between consoles and handhelds.
We get around 4 or 5 first party titles for handhelds and 1 or 2 for consoles each year. If you unify both sides of Nintendo all of the sudden you have the best game softwate developer company in the entire World focused on a single machine, and the repercussions of that can only benefit the player.
Switch will eventually have the best first party lineup in history considering most of their best devs are still working and very well alive.
I would say Breath Of The Wild will keep me occupied, considering that map is 10 times bigger than Skyrim, and 5 times bigger than The Witcher 3. We are looking at a 2,000 hour game if you are like me and like to finish Zelda games 100%.
They also enlisted many third party developers that will support the system such as Level 5, Atlus, From Software, and many others. Depending of the sales I imagine that support can continue all the way to the end of their usual consoles 5 year cycle. Not a bad thing.
They had been very accurate about their cycles so far in North America:
NES 1985-1991 / year 6 SNES 1991-1996 / year 5 N64 1996-2001 / year 5 GameCube 2001-2006 / year 5 Wii 2006-2012 / year 6 Wii U 2012-2017 / year 5 Switch 2017-? / year ?
Most likely 5 years as well. That's 5 years of first party non divided 100% focus all the way to at least 2022. Hard to beat that.

I can't believe people are praising this new console. It's even less of a game console than the Wii U, despite the fact that it reuses many ideas+features of the aforementioned atrocity that flopped.
I don't get the hype at all. I knew this is what the NX was going to be like the moment I heard it was announced, and it ain't for me.
Consoles like the Switch are what's killing the console market, because they're trying desperately to merge handheld gaming with console gaming, which I am 100% against. I doubt it will even be that much more powerful than the Wii U, either.

Really surprised. Firstly by the general lack of interest for the Switch ITT. Secondly, that Cervantes uses the 3D on his 3DS. I thought everyone turned that off? Yep I use it! To be fair, I'm using a New 3DS XL model, so it has a much more stable 3D. The thing is: I'm still impressed by it visually, and I think it does really change the gameplay when used right - most obviously in games like Thunder Blade, Galaxy Force 2 (in the Sega 3D Collection) and Kid Icarus, in which the added perspective helps you to judge distance from enemies/bullets. Man, Thunder Blade turns into a very impressive game with its addition. About the Switch, the biggest advantage certainly is Nintendo being able to focus on a single thing instead of having two separate machines to focus on. On the other hand, previous portables being much "weaker" than consoles meant they could get shorter, experimental games (and the experimental design itself of the NDS/3DS machines helped with that); Nintendo could make both a "safe", big budget Zelda and an experimental, almost retro one (like "A link between worlds"). While "A link between worlds" was highly praised as a portable game, I think it would be reviled if released as a console one - people would be complaining about it being short, not having amazing graphics, having a simpler gameplay etc. On the Switch, I'm afraid we might be restricted to the console experience: people will always be expecting that any new game is good as a console game, not as a portable one. While a 2d game on a portable might still be seen as a big release (like Azure Striker Gunvolt), on consoles they're usually indie games that never get a physical release. Keep in mind what I'm saying is all conjecture, but I'm just afraid we'll lose even more that mid-budget kind of game we can still get on portables (think of Kid Icarus, 3DS Shinobi and a lot of big 2d games), and instead be completely divided between AAA and indies. So, will Nintendo still be capable of releasing as many games as they have if every single game has to look good not just on a tiny portable screen, but also on a huge tv? That's probably the main obstacle they'll have to surpass. The other obstacle being the fact that, for this be a good portable, it might not be a powerful console. So will 3rd parties really be interested in it, or will they abandon it as they previously did with the Wii and Wii U? As I said, the trailer showing Skyrim is really not a good indicator - it means Bethesda might release and "old" game on it, but not be confident enough to port a newer game like Fallout 4. So it might suffer the same fate as the Wii, which got ports from PS2 games - not many PS3 ones. Still, Nintendo is a smart enough company to get their way around most of these problems, so I hope it will be a great thing. Hell, even the Wii U was, in my eyes, the most attractive console in this generation besides the PC.

Cervantes those are very good points. If you look at the trailer when you are using the dock, the screen gets completely covered, they made that very clear with the design, meaning Wii U and 3DS asymmetrical experience has been completely removed and replaced by the use of a standard Switch Pro controller. That along tells you the kind of games they are aiming for, and considering for 10 years they haven't focused on that style since the GameCube, it is interesting to see what they will come up with those limitations.
