Gotta say, I love the cute-dog-controller mascot that the internet seems to have crowd-souced for the Switch.

By the way, only now I noticed they got rid of the d-pad. Those four separate buttons don't look good for 2d games.

The pro controller they showcased had a normal dpad. I suspect this one has the return of the c buttons for convenience when one is using it as two tiny controllers.
I'm interested to know if any of the old controllers will be usable (since the wii and wii u controllers were bluetooth). I wouldn't mind continuing to use my existing wii u pro controller

Yup, you'll have to use the Pro controller for the D-Pad, apparently their patent has finally expired. Those detachable joy-cons could easily get modded as well. Like I said, I'll probably be looking into 3rd party pads this time around.

As I await for my new mac to be announced on the 27th, i've thought a lot about how Nintendo is basically the Apple of the video game industry. Just look at these commercials

inb4 Spirit Bomb hates it ... damn it. About the Switch, the biggest advantage certainly is Nintendo being able to focus on a single thing instead of having two separate machines to focus on [...] Yeah, I hear you. I imagine it working like: big "home console" games are at $60 and "handheld" ones are at like $35 or $40, as physical releases. That's what I'm hoping for anyway. They might end up being digital only or something. Which would be a bummer. I'm the kind of guy who still has his Super Game Boy plugged into his SNES most of the time, so this is like my dream console. It's a beautiful design; looks very high-end and sleek and makes the WiiU look like a toy in comparison. And like stratogustav said, now Nintendo can focus all of its creative talent on one machine. No more Mario Kart 7/8 or Super Smash 3DS/WiiU. Super excited for a HD Pokemon...

They might end up being digital only or something Which would suck considering (with the information we have now) the hard drive has only 32 gigs and can't be switched out with a different one. You'd have to fork over more money to get a decent sized SD card, and you may/may not have to get more than one if that were the case.

Given that it is tablet-sized, it is almost certainly going to be flash memory again, though hopefully we'll see more than the 32 GB the Wii U had. Probably expandable via SD or Micro SD, like the various 3DS models. Not as nice as a hard drive, but cruising Amazon, even a 128 GB micro SD is pretty reasonable at the moment. As long as we don't see something silly like the proprietary/expensive Vita memory sticks, I don't see it being an issue.
The dock appears to have a few USB slots. I don't think those will be usable for permanent storage, since the idea is to be able to quickly switch from TV to portable mode, but it would be nice if you're able to use an external hard drive there for a bit of extra storage to quickly move games to and from the internal memory or SD card.

Aren't these the same people that released the new 3DS without a cord to charge it?

With Nintendo I usually just buy physical games, but been able to upgrade the memory via SD card doesn't sound bad at all. If they give you that option it would definitely be a plus. The third party support looks solid, but even without it, first party stuff is always enough for me to jump in. Nevertheless, the decision of going just with a regular Pro controller and removing asymmetrical gameplay is bringing this: Arc System Works, From Software, Level 5, Codemasters, Platinum, Marvelous, Tokyo RPG Factory, Atlus, Konami, Capcom, Sega, Namco, Tecmo, Square Enix, etc., some are old partners, but some are definitely new.

With Nintendo I usually just buy physical games, but been able to upgrade the memory via SD card doesn't sound bad at all. If they give you that option it would definitely be a plus. I tend to go that way myself for most physical releases with Nintendo. There have been a few exceptions on the 3DS and Wii U for me though: Wii UFatal Frame: Maiden of the Black Water (only got a physical release in Japan and Europe) Darksiders II (part of the 2nd Humble Nintendo Bundle) NES Remix 1&2 (physical copy hadn't been announced yet) Pikmin 3 (Got via Club Nintendo when I bought the physical release of Mario Kart 8) 3DSDonkey Kong Country Returns 3d (Got with points when Club Nintendo was closing) Fire Emblem Fates (since I didn't get a collector's edition, and 2/3 of the game was going to be DLC anyway) Mario Golf: World Tour (Got with points when Club Nintendo was closing) Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Soul Hackers (on sale for around $5) Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner - Overclocked (on sale for around $5) Start Fox 64 3D (Got with points when Club Nintendo was closing) Super Street Fighter IV (Part of the second Humble Nintendo Bundle) So, the theme with the above examples is mostly games that were heavily discounted, part of a promotion, or there was some issue with physical release. I still have a lot of other digital games on my Wii U and 3DS, but they mostly fall into the indi, budget or virtual console categories. With the Wii U, there have been a few games I picked up physical copes of, and wondered if digital would have been better. For example, the load times in Tokyo Mirage Sessions are much quicker with the digital version, and Xenoblade Chronicles X actually has a bunch of free DLC for the disc version to improve load times. With the precious 32 GB of system memory, they hadn't moved to full installs of the game like even the PS3 and 360 had. One of the reasons I'm glad for the shift to flash-memory cartridge games is that they should still be relatively inexpensive to produce, and could still store a fair bit without relying on the the system-storage. Likely we won't see the load-time issues the Wii U had. It would be nice if DLC could potentially be stored on the carts, rather that the Switch's internal storage.

Imperial Khador Yeah, there is always digital stuff to buy with Nintendo. I particularly cherish my collection of NES, SNES, and N64 classics. If they start doing it with the GameCube I would also jump in for that.
