So after dusting off the PS2 to play some games for Classic November, I noticed that the thumbsticks are sticky again. This happens with all PS controllers if you don't use them regularly. Why? Is it just the material that's shitty? This never happens on any other controllers I have.

Odd, I've never noticed that with any of my Sony controllers that haven't been used in a while. Maybe I've just been lucky in that department.
(That said, I've had a PS1 and PS2 controller simply stop working entirely after having not been used for a few years.)

I've never noticed this either. Although I do have a habit of wiping down every controller I use with an antibacterial wipe every now and then, so maybe that helps.

It's weird because they are in storage while not being used. So no sun or anything hits it.

I never had this issue but I know of people this happened to. However the one I remember used their controller a lot as opposed of not using it at all.
I guess I had always been lucky too. The only issue I had with my Sony controllers is that they lose the matte color and become glossy, and even after I clean then I can't get rid of the shine. I'm not a fan of the glossy color. I wish their was a way to clean it away back to new.

It happens on pretty much all my 1st party PS2 and PS3 controllers. It is a common thing as I've Googled it. I feel like the rubber is cheaply made.

Mine used to get really sticky too, but I think in my case it was actually due to the amount of hand sanitizer I used daily.
