I was looking into the best selling games of the month, and it looks like besides sports games the older games take the majority of sales.

I guess Bioshok The Collection should count, but that one is also old in a way.

I have to say I'm proud for Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, those games were the GTAs of the 90s, and are still ranking. Definitely one of my most replayed games of all time.

It is the perfect example because we are at the right point in time when PS3 and PS4 have about the exact same user base numbers, and the case applies for both consoles.

I would say PS4 platform has yet to grow. We still don't even have one single Tennis game yet, which means the user base is not large enough for a Tennis game to be profitable.

Those numbers are just for September. I'm sure some new titles will sell better now that the Holidays are approaching just for the sales and that people like to give new games as gifts, but other than that it looks people has really lost their faith.

I would guess, considering 3 out of the 40 games mentioned don't have physical releases. I know for us digital does not matter, but I would say that for the bigger audiences, at leat in U.S. and Europe, digital releases are already representing the market to a large extend.

What I hear people saying is that PC gamers are one step above mobile gamers. They will pay for games if they are 75% off. If this transitions to console we well cease to get AAA games.

People say it is a bit alarming that the sales of games seems to be the same games every month. Sports games, grand theft auto, call of duty whatever, battlefield whatever, all seem to chart every month, but anything else gets dropped eventually by the publishers.

I'm one of those guys that only buys AAA games for less than 10 bucks on sales, mainly because I don't care that much for the majority of those games. However I do try to support games I care about a lot by buying them full price. So if AAA games are the ones to suffer, I don't know if I'll even notice it.

Hmmm, I would say that I don't consider myself primarily a PC gamer. I have a fairly decent Steam library, but I primarily use a laptop. The specs on my laptop are decent enough to run most indi games, and AAA games from a few years back on high settings, but most of what I play could be considered console-style games. In my case, most of my library are things that I've bought at sale price or through a humble bundle, etc.

This matches my console purchasing habits though. There's very little that I want to pay $70-90 to play on day one, when I have enough of a backlog to play already.

If these sorts of habits contribute to changing how the AAA industry works, I don't think I'd mind. A lot of AAA games have gotten fairly flavourless, and it seems like development staff is treated fairly poorly throughout the industry.
