I'm currently playing through Half Life 2 and its episodes, and I'm loving every minute of it. I think it still holds up very well, and the storytelling is excellent. The physics system is very smart, and the weapons are awesome. It's a true classic.
Even though Half Life 3 has become something of a joke on the web, as it hasn't been officially announced yet after more than a decade, I still have faith that Valve will complete the game eventually. Half Life 2 was an outstanding game, but improvements could still be made to the gameplay+other areas of the sequel. Some of the things I'd love to see Half Life 3 implement would be:
-Branching path level design. Half Life 2 is an extremely linear game, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing, I would rather have a branching path design, allowing the player more freedom to reach a certain destination. I think this would add a lot of replay value, like it did in Star Fox 64.
-New weapons. I noticed that HL2 only has around 10 weapons total, which is rather low for a big budget FPS game. And while HL2's weapons all feel very unique and effective, greater weapon variety is never a bad thing.
-Better driving controls. This one is minor, as HL2's driving controls were definitely functional, but still rather awkward with a gamepad.
-Leaves no question unanswered. I want Half Life 3 to explain everything and wrap up the storyline completely. There are so many unanswered questions raised in the first two games, like who is the G-Man, and what becomes of Gordon and Alex after episode 2. Storytelling and script should be top priority for Half Life 3.
-Better graphics and physics. Half Life 2 had a revolutionary physics engine for its time, that still holds up great today. But much more can be done with modern technology.
So these are the things that I want to see in Half Life 3. But the question is, would do YOU want to see in Half Life 3?
