Anything that involves practice, training, planning, and competition is a sport. Which is why I feel there is nothing wrong with considering math competitions a sport, as the mind is like another muscle you can exercise and make better. And that's why job interviews should also be on ESPN.

Esports is cancer while normal sports usually involves getting fit, which can help prevent cancer. The difference is night and day.
Seriously though, does anyone really care if esports is considered a sport or not? I can't think of anyone that would, unless there's some kid out there that wanted to spice up his college application by saying he was the captain of his CS:GO team.

@winnersdontusedrug I wouldn't say they're cancer but it's no substitute for the real thing. Organic sports is a little more, you know, 'back to nature'. It involves a degree of fitness and alertness, but can also increase that with time and practice.
And face it: who's more likely to get a girl, the captain of the Call of Duty squad or the Captain of the Rugby League team? There's much less certainty out on the field than in a computer game.

Which is why I feel there is nothing wrong with considering math competitions a sport, as the mind is like another muscle you can exercise and make better. LOL! No denial there. Joking aside, it is important to mention for anyone that feels bad for being a "nerd", nerd is a word that has a lot of negative connotations. In reality a nerd is someone that demonstrates passion for a specific technical field. I consider musicians nerds because of this. In fact NFL players are nerds as well, as I'm sure they all carry a lot of passion for their sport which is by definition a technical field as well. The whole idea that nerds are weird is unfounded, as everyone is weird in their own way. I do have a lot of weirdness in me just like everyone else, sure I make a living by photographing naked women and that may be weird on its own, but I also worked in normal jobs, serving tables, serving drinks, DJing, promoting clubs, and managing hotel conferences. If you have passion in playing games whether is Madden, Candy Crush, NBA2K, Criminal Case, or Mario, you are a nerd. In fact anyone that posts in forums, any kind of forums, is a nerd, as they have taken the time to discuss a specific field, getting out of their ways to open their cellphones and reply to a post. And face it: who's more likely to get a girl, the captain of the Call of Duty squad or the Captain of the Rugby League team? That's true in most occasions but because of a whole different issue. It has nothing to do with logic or reasoning. In fact it is the complete opposite. It has to do with the mental conditioning of our societies. It falls under the same category as to why is OK for a girl to wear a bikini on the beach, but completely unacceptable for her to wear lingerie, even on the same beach. Humans are creatures that hardly ever use their cognitive abilities to deal with their own reality. They instead follow the pack because it is easier than thinking for themselves.

So, is it settled? What I gather from this discussion is: Sports kicked Armored Core Raven's dog. stratogustav will always find a way to insert sex in any discussion, which is great since sex is all about insertion. Norway has a Chess Metal scene and Balder should talk more about it. leaon79s posed a very deep, meaningful and paradoxical question we should all be thinking about; this is his own "Can love bloom on the battlefield?" question. centipede knows some badass sports. scipioafricanus and Dan E. Kool still have an appropriate gif for every situation. yar2084's mind will be blown when he finds out about artistic gymnastics. winnersdontusedrugs brought a cancer analogy, which is the health's version of Hitler. I only like stuff before they become SERIOUS BUSINESS. fsfsxii never asked for this.

Yeah, the correct answer to this question is me.

Wrong. That's not what nerd means. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. It's funny, I went to a Catholic school unti I graduated from High School the first time, and we were all very competitive in that school when it comes to scores. One of our classmates was very good and it was very hard for us to reach his level. A lot of people tried extra hard to make it happen, but his momentum always kept him above. A lot of us were also good and we would all obtained an average of 8.5 to 8.8 between all 15 subjects, including chemistry, physics, biology, math, etc.. However he was averaging 9.4 and he always felt unreachable as no one could really make it to above 8.8. In the last year however, another classmate who always felt behind because he was never the first, and missed on things like going on a trip to Spain to have a dinner with the royal family, decided that it was enough, that he was going to do better. We don't know what he did on his vacations but on the last year he left all of us astonished as he end up averaging 9.8 in 3 quarters and 9.9 in the other one, which honestly felt impossible for all of us, yet somehow he made it happen. We used to say this guy was a true nerd, as in order to get that score he needed to become excellent in all classes, and physical education was not the exception, as he was also an essential player in our volleyball team and one of our fastest runners as well. As adults we call this, the renaissance man, someone that is good in all aspects and has obtained knowledge on various different fields. As a consequence the word nerd always felt like a complement to us, as we use to call each other that whenever we won on a chemistry or a computer science quiz for example, when someone would do a very spontaneous smart play against other schools on a basketball match, or when someone was able to pull a very cool Metallica solo on the electric guitar. I remember many learned to play the song I Disappear from the Mission Impossible soundtrack when we were in like 8th grade, so it applied to all subjects all the way until we graduated.
