Wasn't the 80's Scarface movie already a psuedo-remake of another movie with the same name? Is the Hollywood tradition of remaking everything under the sun reaching it's next phase or is Scarface going to end up as some sort of trilogy?

Is the Hollywood tradition of remaking everything under the sun reaching it's next phase or is Scarface going to end up as some sort of trilogy? Yup! The Al Pacino Scarface is a remake of the original 1932 film starring Paul Muni and Boris Karloff. I just watched it yesterday after hearing about this new remake from the Coen Brothers. It's pretty good! I actually really liked it. It's set during Prohibition, so 1932 Tony is an Italian bootlegger instead of a Cuba drug lord. Other than that, it's mostly the same story. Different script and characters, but largely the same, even in small details like the "World Is Yours" sign at the end. I think if they do something different with the script, if it isn't Tony Montana, but a totally different Tony in a totally different time and place, this could be cool. I don't know if Hollywood has the balls to make their remakes that different anymore, but that's the only way I'd accept it.

Yep, the 1932 movie is great and the 80s one is god-tier. I don't think current Hollywood is capable of producing something on its level. It will probably be a PG-13 movie. That's what they did to Robocop, wasn't it? Edit: Also, Breaking Bad is already a good enough modern version of Scarface.

The Godfather was the better gangster/mob film. Scarface is pretty good, but doesn't come near the perfection of the cinema art that is The Godfather.

Goodfellas, pretty good too. I might even be inclined to say it's better than Scarface, but not better than The Godfather.

Next question: Godfather 1 or Godfather Part 2? Haha, I got the perfect answer to this; none of them! The Godfather 1901-1980 is the definitive version. 10 hours long, all cut into chronological order with extra/extended scenes.
