I've only played the first Rachet and Clank title on PS2, and I was not impressed. It had the humor level of a saturday morning cartoon, The gameplay was meh, and honestly I really don't remember it having any stand out features whatsoever. I MUCH prefer the first Jak and Daxter title (Precursor Legacy) over it. That game was amazing. I hear the sequels are better but I don't have any interest in playing them. Sony's IPs are generally hit and miss for me (mostly miss). While I loved the first Jak and Daxter to death, I refuse to play the sequels because of how much they deviated from the gameplay of the first one that I admired so much. Rachet and Clank as I just said is totally meh for me, I despise the Killzone series, see the Resistance games as just a cheap Halo knock-off, think the Uncharted & Gran Turismo games are boring eye-candy, and I find God of War to be way too dude-bro. The only IPs of theirs that look interesting to me are Sly Cooper, Infamous, and Metal Gear Solid, none of which I've actually played. However I will say that Sony did a wonderful job with MAG and Warhawk, MAG especially. It's a shame that there's no way to play the former now, since it was online-only and the servers were shut down. So TLDR I r8 3/5. "Meh"

Oh man, I haven't played this series. They look nice, though, and Mark's reviews of them were fun.

I have all three on PS2 but I haven't played them much, I've played Size Matters on PSP and PS2 more and I like that one, I've just never gotten into Ratchet & Clank as a series, they're all good though, the entire series is good as far as I know, it's just not a series I wanna dive into right now. I don't know much about the newer games on PS3 but they seem fine too.
I will say this, of the three big PlayStation brand platformers; Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter and Sly, I am more of a Sly guy, and of the other two I like Jak & Daxter more than Ratchet & Clank, so this is not really my topic.

I'm a PlayStation fan, but I was never into their mascots. They may have acommplished getting the proper polish after the PS1, but I simply don't feel the magic of their N64 counterparts.

I've played all of them up to a crack in time (with the exception of the psn store one) and I've liked each and every one of them. The formula hasn't exactly gone through any huge changes since it's inception, but I don't consider that a problem. I don't think a series NEEDS to go through some arbitrary change if the gameplay from previous entries was good enough. As for the games themselves, the shooting is great and it blends really well with the platforming, and there's lots of interesting weapons to use and upgrade. My only real problem with the series is that stage design can get a bit gimmicky at times.

I only know about them because Sony keeps flashing their posters over at PS Store.

And why were you a day late posting this weekly discussion thread? This isn't the first time it has happened either. I'm getting tired of this bad habit of yours. Do you even know how much I love the weekly discussions? When I don't see one on monday I freak out. It makes me so angry! You'd darn better have a reasonable excuse. I'm sure Dan E. Kool isn't happy about this, either, and probably has taken note of this slip up. It sure would be a shame if we had to impeach you....

Do you want to know why it's not out on Monday? Because it's always released on Tuesday. Every Tuesday before I take the bus to university I post the new weekly game discussion. If you love the weekly game discussions that much, then you would know that they are always released on Tuesday. So here is the release schedule: Tuesday: Weekly game discussion Wednesday: Weekly Vault suggestions

As for Ratchet & Clank. The 3 first games of the series are the best ones, hands down, no questions about it. They all brought something new to the table. I think the first one is still the best for its originality and perhaps a little nostalgia (I still remember the first time I played it. It was over at my neighbor's house, and we played the demo. Good times.). It was so cool to have a game where you saved up all your money to buy new weapons and upgrade them. The levels were varied with new themes, enemies and objectives. Having your idol (Captain Qwark) turn out to be the bad guy and then save your home planet was awesome! And who can forget the bond building between Ratchet and Clank throughout the first game.
The 2nd game pretty much expanded on everything and is technically far superior. It lacks in originality compared to the first one, but is almost equal due to all the extra stuff like gladiator matches, races, mini-games etc.
The 3rd one had the worst campaign of the three (I never got why people loved Dr. Nefarious). But it had an excellent multiplayer. You could even play with a multi-tap, and that is still the shit! I want to have a LAN this summer to play this again.

You know, Balder doesn't give Spirit Bomb enough credit. He deserves a lot of credit. And I give it to him. But Balder doesn't. The Weekly Discussions are too late! We see it all the time. Sometimes Tuesdays. Sometimes a Wednesday. Honestly, we're lucky if we get one at all. Sometimes, a LOT of times, it's not even there. And it shouldn't be that way.
