Mario 64 is terrific on the compilation. It just looks so good and plays so well with the controller support. I'm a big fan of 3D All Stars. You guys are making me want to spend more money!

Finished both "Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise" and the version of Super Mario 64 on the 3D All-Stars collection yesterday.
FotNS: LP was fun, and I think would serve as a good starting point for people looking to either get into the Yakuza games, or Fist of the North Star. It is non-canon for FotNS, but uses a lot of familiar elements, so you don't need to worry about being familiar with the franchise. Similarly, because it doesn't tie to any of Yakuza's ongoing plot elements, it is a nice intro to that style of game.
A friend who was over also finished the Sega CD version of "Snatcher" he's been playing off and on with my modded PSTV. It has been fun to watch. Like most Kojima games, it draws a lot from whatever movies Kojima was into at the time, but was impressive at the time of release.

Another game like that would be Judgment, that came out last year, although that one I think is in the same Universe.
I always wanted to try Snatcher, but I don't think I have the English version. If I find it I will definitely add it to my modded PS1.

If I find it I will definitely add it to my modded PS1. I didn't have any luck finding a version of Snatcher for PS1 with an English patch when I went looking. Because it is a visual novel game primarily, I don't think it gained a lot in the PS1 version, and the consensus when I was looking seemed to be that the Sega CD version was the best...and conveniently already had an English-language version released, it was easy to choose that. If you have any device with Sega CD emulation set up (via Retroarch), that may be the way to go. One note about it is that the original was built to use the Justifier light gun, but also worked with a normal controller. However, trying to do the few action segments with the controller (particularly when fighting these little spider bots) was exceedingly frustrating for my friend, until we turned on the option in Retroarch for turbo-fire. From what I'd read, this seemed to be a pretty common problem for players. I think he's going to start on Policenauts, another Kojima visual novel, when next he's over. Policenauts on the PS1 does have a fairly recent english-language fan patch. ------------- Judgement is another good 'one-off' starting point for Yakuza, and set in the same universe as the main series.. Yazuka 0 is, of course, another good launching point, but does set one on course for 6 more main-series titles focused on Kiryu. The upcoming Yakuza: Like a Dragon, is also probably a good hoping on point since there is a new main character, and some big changes to the play mechanics, going for a JRPG-style combat system. After Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise though, I'd like to see them take on other licensed properties that would be a good fit. A friend of mine would love to see them take on 'Jojo's Bizarre Adventure', since the art style they went with for Lost Paradise would fit well...and the Yakuza team could probably handle appropriately oddball situations.

I have Policenauts for the PS1 already. I should try it as well. My modded PS1 Classic runs on Retroarch, so I should be able to add the Sega CD version. Thanks for the tip.

Finished Trine 2 on the Switch with my friends with whom I've been playing that series online. It was pretty fun. We had to take a long break, as their kids are back in school and they're working agin (both teachers), but it was nice to finish and get started on Trine 3.

Imperial Khador - Trine 3 is underwhelming, sadly, as they tried to make it a full 3d game and it didn't work very well (camera issues, sparse levels, bad puzzles due to the mechanics not adapting well to 3d). It's a very short game, though, I would say around 1/4 of Trine 2 or even less, so it isn't long enough to annoy the player. I bought Trine 4 a few months ago and intend to play it on Christmas with my wife. I think the series in general is not that great besides the gorgeous visuals, but it shines in local coop and I don't know many modern games like it (local coop platformer-puzzle).

Trine 3 definitely feels a bit slower paced anyway so far. I did play a bit of Trine 4 to test it out. Controls feel quite a bit different than 1 or 2, but seemed mostly okay. Yeah, it is good, but not great as a series, though certainly pretty and atmospheric. We had been looking for cooperative games to play remotely that my friends' kids (7 and 5) wouldn't be bored watching, and might be able to participate in without fighting, and it has done that job well enough

Finished up Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition on the PS4...or at least the main quest. Will post my impressions of it over in the Tales thread sooner or later.

Finished up Ys Origin on the Vita and PSTV with a nice fan-patch that added higher quality textures from the PC version.
It was really fun. I gather up to Origin's release, only Ys I and Ys II actually have anything to do with the land from which the title draws its name. It was interesting to the ancestors of many NPCs from those games, as well as the goddesses and the events that led to the sealing of the Black Pearl.
Each playthrough is about 6-7 hours, but you have to play with all three to see the real ending, so this is definitely the longest of the Ys games I've played so far.

Finished up Ghostbusters: The Video Game - Remastered on the PS4.
I had a fun time with this one 10 years ago, and still really enjoyed it this time. Not top tier exactly, but having the original cast/writers contributed a lot. You get to really feel like a Ghostbuster.

Finished the main story in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It was pretty good. Definitely a quality Metroidvania in the style of Symphony of the Night. I'm not as fond of the polygon style over sprites here.
One minor frustration is that some areas didn't reflect changes. For example, the opening chapter is on a galleon in a storm, which runs aground once you defeat the boss. You can return to it later, to unlock some areas once you can double jump etc....but at soon as you board the ship on the beach...the next scene has it right back in the middle of the storm on the high seas again. Not the end of the world, but I do think it took me out of the game.

Nice, I finished it back when it came out on the Switch with 50% completion, so I still have a long way to go. It's nice they let you feel you finish it by giving you the credits pretty much half way. I'm debating whether finishing it on the Switch or starting again on the PS4, since I also have that version, and do 100% there.

Finished up Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure on the PC via an English patch.
I can see why so many people rate the Crossbell duology among the highest quality of JRPGs. I loved the Trails I'm the Sky Trilogy, but Zero/Azure took the storytelling to a whole new level. I'm looking forward to getting started on Trails of Cold Steel

Maximum Carnage on the SNES. I finally beat the damn game after like 25 years. The game really starts to lose it's charm when you are fighting the same gauntlet of bosses over and over.
