I reached credits on the PS5 version of "Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising", the prequel for Suikoden's spiritual successor: Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.
It definitely fits squarely as a budget entry in whatever you might call the same genre as Vanillaware's "Odin Sphere"", Muramasa: The Demon's Blade, and Dean Dodrill's "Dust: An Elysian Tale" (though without any of the light Metroidvania elements the latter has). I'd say it is definitely a decent game for its price point, with gorgeous backgrounds, and some catchy music being a highlight. Story and characters were also enjoyable, and make me interested to see more of Eiyuden Chronicle's world when the main game releases. The main point of of contention in a lot of reviews, the numerous side quests, is a valid one. There are only about 5 dungeon areas, and most of the side quests are either "go talk to x person for me" or "Go collect x number of y for me", it can get tedious with around 150 of these side-quests available before end credits. For a more streamlined experience, you may want to stick to quests given by shopkeepers, as these are the ones that increase their available stock. Quests for other townsfolk mostly give you items or resources. I also found that in doing all the side-quests, I was over-leveled for whatever I was doing, which meant I didn't have to put much thought into using the swap mechanic in combat, which is legitimately enjoyable.

Finished up Shantae and the Seven Sirens.
I really enjoyed this one. The Shantae games are usually solid, and this one was a welcome return to the metroidvania formula, after the last, stage-based entry.

The most recent one was the Grid Legends story mode, but the game has a lot more content to go through, including the career mode that I still haven't started.

I finished up Earthbound this weekend. The game is a 16 bit classic. I was surprised at how good it truly was. I passed on it during its initial launch in the 90s, because the marketing was stupid, the box was oversized, and it looked like a stupid kids game. I couldn't have been more wrong. I was really happy to play through this masterpiece, and I am so thankful that I actually got to experience it after playing Mother 1 (Earthbound Beginnings). I feel like I had more perspective than the average player outside of Japan did in '94, since this was an outstanding sequel. They improved on just about every aspect of the game, 16 bit modernized it, and added to the lore quite a bit. The only gripes I have about the game are minimal at best. I don't like how you can't purchase multiple items at once by choosing the quantity desired. I also don't like how the towns are pretty much done for after you've completed your story line. (I really want more.) Outside of that, you can't go wrong. A+ 5/5 10/10 all the way. I actually felt happy when the game ended! What a good experience! By the way, thanks Imperial Khador for the player's guide link. That was fun to go through.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it, and liked the player's guide
The english fan-patch of Mother 3 is excellent as well, if you want to complete the trilogy.

I beat Valkyria Chronicles a couple of days ago. The game is way too easy on its second play through. Beating a chapter in 1-2 turns was fun for a while, but I decided to add some challenge to it. Instead of rushing through with Alicia, I decided to take out the enemy camps and the all of the ace officers. I also went through many of the skirmishes in hard. Good Lord that was quite difficult! I enjoyed the challenge. What a fantastic game.

I finished up the PSP version of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, almost 10 years after playing the first part of the duology, Innocent Sin.
For those unfamiliar, Innocent Sin never received a PS1 english release, but Eternal Punishment did, leaving players with only the second half of the story for years.
Persona, and the Persona 2 duology then got PSP remakes, allowing english speakers to play Innocent Sin for the first time. However, after Persona and P2: Innocent Sin didn't sell well, the english localization of Eternal Punishment for the PSP was cancelled. Though, throwing a bone to the fans, the PS1 version of Eternal Punishment was made available digitally as a Playstation Classic title, for PS3, PSP and later, the Vita.
I had tried the PS1 version of Eternal Punishment at that time, but really didn't like the interface. I figured a fan patch for the PSP version would come eventually, though I hadn't expected for it to take quite this long.
----
I really enjoyed it, though I still find the battle mechanics a bit clunky. It was really nice to see the consequences from the first game, and the Cthulhu Mythos stuff used heavily in the duology along with Persona's usual Jungian collective unconsciousness stuff is pretty cool.

I've nearly finished Ys 7. Lots of grinding for stones to craft the ultimate weapons. It's getting tedious, fast.

I do have to say that I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to Ys 7 and 8. The earlier games and their remakes are pretty easy, 5-10 hour affairs. I'm not sure if a 40 hour Ys game is appealing to me.

I finished Dezaemon Plus for the PS1, which is Daioh Gale Ver. 2. I have the one that was released for the PS3, but for a while it was corrupted after downloading it multiple times. However recently I gave it another shot and downloaded it again, and this time it worked, apparently they fixed it after all this years, so I had a lot of fun playing it on the arcade machine. It is a very solid game, there is something special about the games from that period. It is the whole Mega Man vibe, but on a shoot 'em up. Many games has that, and for some reason I really dig that style of gameplay, so I end up enjoying it a lot all the way through.

I didn't know this game, so I gave it a quick Google and then clicked on images. The game was present for the first three rows, but then there was an alternative search with Dezaemon crossed out. Plus sized models showed up. What a strange world we live in. The game looks fun though.

Yeah, there is also Dezaemon Kids, but I haven't tried that yet. It was another one that wasn't working before on the PS3, but maybe it is fixed by now like they did with Plus. The series is basically a RPG Maker, but for shmups. I haven't seen the plus size models yet, but the fatter the ships the better.

My son just played through the Untitled Goose Game on the Switch. I watched his latest playthrough, and the game is hilarious. I'd recommend it as a palate cleanser, whenever you need one.

Haven't been posting much, but for games recently finished in the last few months: Metroid Dread on Switch Star Ocean: First Departure R for PS4 (on PS5) Tales of Innocence R on the Vita/PSTV (with fan-translation patch) Persona 2: Eternal Punishment for PSP (on Vita/PSTV with fan-translation patch) Lost Judgment for the PS5. Probably others, since I hadn't updated the list since July
