Finished up Cat Quest on the Switch the other day. I had a lot of fun with this one.
It's a simple adventure game, but the art is appealing, the gameplay feels good, and the cat puns are amusing. It feels paced just right to make you want to keep going, but can be completed in about 5 hours. Playing the sequel with a friend at the moment.

I beat Ocarina of Time for the first time in ages. I still love the game, but I've noticed some issues that I may not have noticed the last time I played through decades ago. It is clear to me that the game was intended for the 64 DD, because equipment gathered in the game is obviously meant for so much more, yet you barely use a lot of it outside of the dungeon that you received it in. The golden gloves are pretty much only used in the end of the game. The hammer isn't used for much outside of that dungeon. The blue tunic is worthless outside of the sunken temple. I wish we could see what the game would have been like with the 64 DD working in tandem.
The camera bothered me during this play through too many times. I think I should have been more forgiving as an "old school gamer," yet I found myself yelling at the camera angle more than I should have. Modern gaming spoils us.
My daughter (who is 5) watched me run through this play through, and she really enjoyed it. She always asked me if I was going to play the game an hour before bed time, because she wanted to see the next big thing. She was so invested in it, that she even ran out of the room when Gannon hit me a couple times, because she "just couldn't take it!" It was really nice to create these memories with her, and now she wants to play through it when she is older. You can't get much more awesome than that.

For funsies, I decided to play through Super Mario Land 2, now that it is on the Nintendo Switch online service. That was the first time in decades, and I still believe that the game is quite fun. I just never realized how much slow down there truly was in the game. I loved the creativity the designers had for the levels and the enemies. The game was pretty easy overall, until you get into Wario's Castle. That was a blast from the past!

SML2 is a really fun game, dschult3 . If you're down with emulation, there's also an excellent Mario Land 2 'DX' fan-patch that updates it as though it were remade for the Game Boy Color. Well worth a play. As for me, I finished the story mode of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge, but I look forward to playing it more with some friends down the line, as it is a fantastic game, but like the old Turtles arcade games, best experienced in a group.

Finished up Ghost of Tsushima on PS5, as well as its Iki Island DLC, included in the PS5 release.
I really enjoyed it. I don't play a ton of open world games, but Jin Sakai's journey was an enjoyable one.
The world is very pretty, and the designers did some amazing things with light. The music is atmospheric, but generally keeps to the background, aside from dramatic scenes. The supporting NPCs are really well fleshed out, including a lot of minor ones.
There are some negative points as well. Settlements feel very sparsely populated for example.
Still, solid 100+ hours wandering around Tsushima and Iki.

Just finished up the Sea of Stars demo on the Switch.
Quick demo, but there was some really nice sprite work, and atmospheric music. Really looking forward to the full game when it releases.

Deja Vu for the GBC. I was worried they cut the hooker scene because of NoA sensibilities at the time, but she was there later on and I punched her lights out.
I think Adventure games has surpassed JRPGs as my new favorite genre. Good thing, too, as I can play them till the end of my days at my own pace as my mind deteriorates into dementia and my fingers become crippled with arthritis.

The family and I beat Shredder's Revenge last night. Although we had to have a discussion with my kindergartner about not high fiving during large battles or boss sections, it turned out fun. I highly recommend that game for couch co-op! Internet online is cool too, but man, this brought out some fun moments on the couch.

Just finished the prologue demo for Octopath Traveler II. It's largely more of the same, and that's not a bad thing
Music is still soothing and atmospheric, and the storybook look and feel of the 'HD2D aesthetic of the first game is still there, and works really well, with those little more realistic touches like the water and fire effects.
Like the first game's final demo, you're given 3 hours, which is about enough to finish about 3 of the characters' initial chapters, or possibly 4 or even 5 if you were to skip cutscenes. Like the first game, the characters' stories vary from light and funny to dark and serious. Englih voice acting is top notch.
Not in the demo, but I'm a bit sad to hear that like the first game, the 8 characters' stories are still largely separate. When you're on one of their chapters, the other 7 characters don't factor in. However, there are apparently side-stories featuring 2 characters in various combinations, so it is nice to see the develops take at least some steps to address that criticism from the first game.
Speaking of the first game, I really should go back and finally beat the final boss. I think I have a few hours of leveling up to do before I can manage it.

Finished my solo playthrough of Cat Quest II for the PS4 (played on PS5), though I still have a co-op game I'm playing through with a friend on the Switch.
Just a really fun, cute action-adventure game that builds well on the first one. Solidly recommended.

Played through the DioField demo on PS5 this morning. I enjoyed both the vibe, and the slice of gameplay.

Finished up Fire Emblem: Engage on the Switch.
I didn't like it as much as Three Houses, but it was still a fun time.

Finished up Fire Emblem: Engage on the Switch. I didn't like it as much as Three Houses, but it was still a fun time. What makes you feel that way? I've heard people say the inverse. I have played neither, to be honest. The tactical combat was as good as ever, but story/character/plotwise... Engage is an anniversary title, and wears that identity on its sleeve. Past main characters are present as 'Emblems' to be summoned, and that drives the main story. So I think because of that, the world an plot themselves are very shallow. Not that Fire Emblem games are super deep, but it feels to me like this one just does the bare minimum. By celebrating the series as a whole, it doesn't have much of an identity of its own, if that makes any sense.
