leaon79s Well, you're definitely right that I get all the references from FFXV and Andromeda. That sounds like a pretty fun headcanon
(I will definitely say that the Regalia-D reminded me a lot of the Nomad.)
Mass Effect Andromeda is another good example of the same sort of thing. I had a lot of fun with it, but I played it months after it came out, so probably got a more patched, complete game. A had borrowed a friend's copy after she played through it on release, and when she played it again after I returned it, she seemed to have a better overall experience as well.
I think you'll probably enjoy the DLC content as you get around to it. The only one I found tedious was Episode Gladiolus. I like Gladio, but it seemed to offer the least insight into the main story, and while it tries to be more of an action game, while still using semi-familiar mechanics, Gladio's a fairly slow character, so there is a lot of emphasis on blocking. Ignis' chapter also plays out like more of an action game, but keeps the pace of the combat quick, so I found it more fun. Prompto's chapter again seems flavoured with just a bit of survival horror.
The last few nights, I've been playing a bit of the Comrades expansion before I tackle the last chapter of the main game. It is mostly combat, but I'm having fun, and it brings the Kingsglaive back into the story.
That's nice to hear about the rest of the DLC content. Ardyn, Luna, Ravus and Arenea feel like good candidates for more side chapters. I wouldn't mind seeing a bit about Regis, Cid, Cor Clarus and Weskham in their younger days (not counting the King's Tale beat-em-up).
Regarding whether the the pacing was by design...some folks have apparently managed to glitch out of the Cartanica mines, and take a walking tour of Niflheim, which while incomplete, seems to offer a fair amount of empty wilderness, cities, and dungeons larger than the Lucis continent (https://youtu.be/Dms58hFsz74). Far more than would be accounted for by the DLCs (so far only Prompto's is in Niflheim) and what you get in the main game. Hopefully we'll see more of it in the other releases, but it does suggest there was meant to be a second open-world continent at one point.
Anyway, I'll stop hijacking the thread. We can always move over to a dedicated FFXV thread if needed
