I happened upon an image of the Japanese version of Future Cop LAPD for the Playstation 1, and I noticed it had an anime cover and they inserted anime profiles above the translated texts of the NPCs that talk to you during missions. It wasn't a major change but I love little touches like that. Then I started wondering if they did that to other games. I knew that in the West we sometimes got massively altered localizations (most notably Super Mario bros 2 and the Jetsons SNES game) but I had always assumed Japan didn't do much to translate Western games.
Does anyone know of any other interesting localizations, whether major or minor?

Call Of Duty is a Square Enix game and all the soldiers speak Japanese. Talk about alternative realities.

billsprestonSay, that does look pretty decent. In fact, I demand more Japanese games to be reskinned with licensed American characters that I can recognize.

Cervantes I know in Brazil they changed a lot of the Master System games. Yes, we changed the hell out of them! The most famous case is the Wonder Boy series: TecToy, the brazilian arm of Sega, repurposed three games in the series to work as licensed Turma da Mônica's games (Monica's Gang). It's a very popular comic/cartoon series around here, though I don't know how well their strategy worked: I only heard once about these games when I was a child, when my cousin said he had seen the Mega Drive one. I've never seen them myself: but then, I grew up with a NES, not a Master System, in which these localizations were more common. This HG101 article about the Wonder Boy series comments on this.
